1921-P Morgan VAM 35 upper tail tip (now removed)
Any idea what maybe going on with this upper tail?
It's on what I think is a VAM 35. The bump does not seem to be magnetic from my crude testing. Its edges seem to blend with the surounding field.
Its all I can do to keep from picking at it, but thought it better to see what you may think first.
Thanks for any input.

Re: 1921-P Morgan VAM 35 upper tail talon
Looks like a booger!!
Re: 1921-P Morgan VAM 35 upper tail talon
I except that as a 'pick at it' vote. Probably my Grandfathers.
It is from his collection of.... coins. I would like to continue this conversation without putting it on top of Discussion Forum. Not for the squeamish. @tmanhg
Here is a photo of what (I think) flew off when I poked with toothpick. Not at all what I thought it would look like....I think it is pictured here upside-down. The front edge looks 'silvery' to me. (The silver edge (band) is key to determining it location on coin, that's assuming you would want to do such a thing.
I spent alot of the next day trying to fit the piece back on the coin in that same spot it shot off from.
This next photo is my best guess for replacement of the removed debris.
Please notice detail lines (imo) extending from the coin INto the debris, IMO. The one leading edge needs to be 'tucked-in' to get that spring effect. I have myself believing here that once debris is 'flexed' it will become silver colored once again.... This last picture is the debris rolled out of its divot 180°. Weird...The debris broke into 2 pieces. I tried to do the spring effect.... It is now now soaking in water...I think will disprove a booger, maybe.
It sure looks like one.
Final Update and Conclusions:
The debris soaked in water for 3 days.
Remained in two pcs, with lighter much lighter tone.
Removed water, 2 pcs. of debris now on saturated paper towel.
A little glimmer, possible Ag on that wet towel?
Poked with stick; the debris broke into many pieces and
went into solution.
CONCLUSION:
I learned a lot about camera, computer, illusion, and that my Grandfathers boogers were not made of Silver, as
I would like to believe, or maybe they were? I get to inact with detail observant people. Thanks.
I took tons of photos of this misadventure.
I can not make sense of most of them...
I will upload photos, in no specific order, to Google Drive cloud. Caution: OT I have heard Google Drive asks for your information when using the link. I have not been able to check this out with old equipment I have. Is this true?

I have disrupted the flow of this post and mean no disrespect. Since I have already made the disruption, @CascadeChris made this comment on a different post, but I think works here also.[quoteRe: 1878-S Made changes around "8" poll attempt.

I think it's a stain/residue etch of some kind.
Using this proscope 50x w/leds may not be trustworthy. I will try real light tomorrow. Thanks DHaliaday.
50x is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too powerful. There is absolutely no need for anything stronger than 10x. Some people use 15-20x for looking at very minor date or mint mark doubling but in general, anything over 10x and you're doing yourself no favors. You start seeing things that are meaningless which take you off in the exact wrong direction. Thank all generous people.

Re: 1921-P Morgan VAM 35 upper tail talon
I would "poke it with a stick".
Re: 1921-P Morgan VAM 35 upper tail talon
I took a quick look at the VAM-35 page.
While the main title is correct, a subtitle lists it as a 1935-P.
I also vote debris. If it were ever encapsulated and then broken out, small bits of plastic can find their way to a coin's surface. Probably not likely here, though.

...Pretty sure not encapsulated in its history, but never say never...Kissov wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2020 3:35 pmI took a quick look at the VAM-35 page.

I noticed what must be a typo on the Vam 35 page also. Can we edit that? I can try.
Here are photos of whole coin. Thanks All! .... lets try that again, using photo stacking. Removed Debris
A photo attempt, looking for area where debris was removed from. I would think there would be some change in color as indicator. my guess When the debris was 'poked with a stick' it flew off the coin, like it was spring loaded. I did eventually find it, IMO. It is not at all what I thought it would look like. I will post photo, after I determine its not organic, (i don't think so.) That would be very embarrassing for me and my Grandfather, God rest his Soul.

LOL Glad it is not a booger.
