1878-S VAM-57 Long Nock cherrypicked

Post by vincar73 » Fri Aug 03, 2018 3:13 pm

This is my 3rd LN cherrypicked ....first one was a detailed VAM-57, the second one was a VAM-27 that came back from one of JB bulk submission as VF20

The european dealer was selling this unattributed 1878-s for 80 euro (aprox 92$) and when i saw it i thought ..... these dealer are crazy a 1878-s in this condition for this price....but looking better i saw the LN .. :D :D :D price is not the best for a cherrypick but i'm happy

Obverse has many scratches but wish it could grade...what do you think??

XF45 (has a shot at AU), but the obverse looks polished.

When in doubt... don't.

Congrats on the 'pick. A longnock is better than no longnock. Looks like your V-57 had a long, long ago journey.

Nice AQ of this Vam 57.
A XF+ AU- is top 25% of gradeable Vam 57 LN’s
Well over 50% of the survivalable LN’s are road kill/Body baged unless you send them to the
Squirrels best friend the Junk Vammer Pocket Change/Goldsmith.
OB looks polished to make it “shine” so not looking promising.

Nice pick! The only one I ever cherry picked was a 27 and it was a blind cherry pick. I picked it up probably 15 years ago and didn't identify it until about 6 years ago when I really got into VAMs. :D

I'd say it can grade with some honest long term pocket wear. Probably will need to be taken down to VF35 level....

Nice pick up! However, I think it will be detail. Still a nice coin to have.

I also think it may have been polished and agree with Vamhelsing in that pocket time (especially in a rabbit's) would fix that issue. :D

But at the end of the day, a Long Knock is a great find!
Cool to find one in your neck of the woods, Congrats!

Thanks all for comments and congrats.

The coin seems had some pl/semi pl surfaces in the past, especially on reverse and it’s a pity that the obverse is so ruined.

I will certainly follow your advice on the pocketing option :D :D
