striations anyone?
No matter how rare the date, this kind of thing always makes me pass. How about you?
When in doubt... don't.
Re: striations anyone?
Still -- it's an excellent example !

Re: striations anyone?
Not necessarily pass, but wish they were better at the draw bench. Still as original as a weak strike or any other off nominal Mint issue.
Re: striations anyone?
Just add color .. Pin strip suit .
Re: striations anyone?
That's a pretty example!
A lot of dates have overall weak strikes. To me, it makes a weak strike more interesting if there are striations.

If I want the coin I wouldn't care, generally. And in some circumstances it might be a bonus.

Re: striations anyone?
I have one with very pronounced roller lines on both sides and all over IIRC, if I come across it I'll post it.

Is the obverse just as liney?

I don't know. This was a screen shot of a Heritage 1892-CC in either MS63 or 64, most likely PCGS... but darned if I can find the coin again.

When in doubt... don't.
Re: striations anyone?
I would definitely pass on a 92-CC that looked like that. They're typically well-struck, and that would be too much money to spend on a curiosity. An 84-O like that would make for a really good educational piece, though.

Re: striations anyone?
True. That situation pretty much sums up my approach with them. If they're severe and on a common-ish date I'll scoop em up. Especially on hammered dates like 81s etc.

Nice coin for educating those of us who haven't seen one with this much striation.

I've been known to pick up such oddities for my teaching examples.

Re: striations anyone?
That’s the strongest point ever remember seeing.
Re: striations anyone?
Obverse looks like it's a generally nasty coin that's been boinked. I looked through 92-CCs in MS63 and didn't find it, but I did notice that while most have decent strikes, there are several pancakes in the bunch. I didn't look closely to see if it's all one die pair, but I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

Thanks for the lesson everyone. I love the lessons I get here..
Re: striations anyone?
As an old timer in collecting/investing/amasing/hoarding, i've learned to acquire oddity morgans,
ie; Struck thrus, Laminations, railroad rims, striations, etc etc, if priced decent, as they eventually sell
for decent money. In mean while looking at em is a real thrill. The minting history/stories of these
mess ups is fantastic.
Thanks for posting this one-- Buy em when you see em= 101 pickin & grinnin

Re: striations anyone?
Heres one I just photo'd. Its not severe but it is somewhat outside of typical with lines of random thickness. Typically all the lines are somewhat uniform in size while this one has thin ones around 2 thick "Railroad track" lines.
Still trying to find the severe one I bought a while back solely as an example of wicked roller lines. When I do I'll post it for sure..

Had a 1901-S DMPL that was struck like a pancake on a striated planchet. Have to see if I have a pic around.
