1900 P Adjustment Strike?

Post by Brabjohn » Wed Aug 01, 2018 11:58 pm

Hoping I could get some more experienced opinion on this weakly struck 1900 P. Certainly seen weaker struck coins but I’m no expert in the subject. I know the reeds can help identify if it’s an adjustment strike or not. What do you guys think? All comments welcome! Thanks!

Brady,
Have you moved on to 1900-Ps? I hope so. Maybe I can find a few 1900-Os now.

Hey Lee!
Not moving off the 1900-O’s just yet! First sight thought it was a 1900-O with a grease filled O. That would have been a nice addition to my stash.

Full denticles and at least average reeding, so I'd say no to a die adjustment strike.

John,
Thanks for your input! Are denticles or reeding a better indication of adjustment strikes? Do you believe this coin to be just a weak strike or possibly a strike working its way from a weaker adjustment strike?

Weak to no reeding is a big indicator of a low pressure/die trial, die setup piece.

Yeah, I agree with Brian, the reeding is the best indicator. But having full denticles is an additional piece of evidence. Think this is the result of a bunch of grease and crud on dies from a normally weakly struck date
