I’m in the process of photo-documenting my 1881-O VAM-50A. I have noticed that all of the date digits appear to be at least doubled. However, the description of the 50A doesn’t list date doubling as a listable feature. If the date is hub doubled, why wasn’t the doubling mentioned in the 50A’s description?
I can think of three possibilities. One, the digits of my specimen aren’t the result of hub doubling. Two, the date of the Discovery Coin wasn’t doubled. Or, three, the 50A has so many major listable features that date doubling was a minor feature that didn’t warrant mentioning.
Please have a look at the attached photos. I'd appreciate your comments.
Thanks.

Re: Date Doubling
Are you sure you're not just seeing reflections?
Welcome to the VAMWorld 2.0 discussion boards. R.I.P. old VAMWorld.
Re: Date Doubling
It might be reflection, but I'm not sure. As you know, photographs can be deceiving. Examination in hand is the only way that a definitive determination can be made. Unfortunately, I'm not sufficiently skilled with a loupe to make such a determination. Through my AmScope, I see the same structure that my photos show.

Rod
Great pics
No significant digit doubling and certainly not
In the usual spots on this particular year.
If you think of LVA plate photos he usually focuses on 2 digits at a time.
But I prefer 1 larger photo of all 4 digits.
I would love to see this photo on the v50A
Page without the yellow arrows since there
Is no significant doubling.
Keep up the great photo documenting.

Re: Date Doubling
Thanks for the information, Mitch. Appreciate it.
I'll ask Andy about attaching a clean copy of the date on the V50A Page.
