Great subject!
Here are recent photos of my old office (upper photo) and my new one in the building on K Street, NW.
In the old office photo, the fellow at the desk is Elbert Quigley. He’s the person responsible for adding those little tracking numbers to documents from the archives. The men to his left are the late Chapman brothers twins – Wilber and Norman. (No relation to S. & H. Chapman Bros. or S&H Green Stamps.) They were hard workers and spent most of their time digging for old documents in the deep archives. Unfortunately, one afternoon while they were eating their dinner from metal pails, there was a cave-in and they were buried under tons of letters, journals and other ancient material. A recovery crew never found Wilber. Norman’s body was discovered with an Italian meatball stuffed in his mouth. The coroner ruled he died of asphyxiation by garlic.
The new office is nicer with better lighting. My desk is on the right with the 200-inch UHD display next to it. I’ve gotten Elbert a new suit of clothes, and he promises to wear them every day. There is a casual conversation area on the left, and at distant center is a more formal meeting table. My assistant’s desk is on the left, just out of the photo.
