I saw the rim cud forming along the bottom, of this 1881 O and I couldn't find any
vams, with the rim cud fully formed.
I saw no vam die markers, but I wanted it anyhow.
I just received it today.
what do you think?
Thanks, Bert

It's not significant enough to have been mentioned when any of the varieties for 81-O were listed. Other features (mint mark, date, wing-neck gap) will be needed to attribute this one.

Thanks John,
I understood, about the insignificance of the 'forming' rim cud, along the bottom on the obv.
That is the only reason I bought it, because I liked that and I thought it was interesting,
I have not seen an 1881 O, with a 'forming die cud', before.
I said that I could see no other die markers for a vam.
I tried to make that clear.
There is no clashing or doubling.
Here are some other pictures, of the areas, that I looked at.
Thanks, Bert

Check VAMs 30 and 59.

I classify this type of thing as "rim crumbling" rather than a CUD, even if it technically can be classified as a CUD(s)..

The pretty significant polishing around the eagle's head is interesting in its own right.
Neat coin; thanks for posting.

There's an 83o with very similar lines in the same general area. Not sure which VAM it is off the top of my head but I do come across it with a modicum of regularity..

Thank you EVERYONE,
I think it is closest to a vam 30 John, Thanks
Here is a better picture of the polishing lines, around the eagle's head, Dennis.
With the " crumbling rim", Thanks Chris on the obv, which is the reason I bought it,
when the seller came down to $30, plus $3 S&H.
Thanks again, Bert
