1878-S VAM-72

Post by Flat-Chested » Sat Nov 30, 2019 1:03 am

It was a hard attribution to make, but it appeared to me that the VAM-72 pups were present on this details San Francisco Long Nock being offered earlier this month on eBay. I invested heavily into details graded SFLN's, and needed a details VAM-72 to make a details set, so I am still dumping money into details graded problem PAFs. But the coin was cheap, and I was the only person bidding on it. I think we are in some kind of golden age of Morgan collecting where rare coins are being sold for the equivalent of a tank of gas.

Maybe I am just imagining lines on either side of the eagle's left leg. And the VAM-72 pup of the horizontal line in the bow is lacking. This coin may actually be a VAM-57, if so I didn't miss by much. My Nikon D800e has pretty much completed it's mission on earth and is no longer registering sharp photos.

I thought the bow was missing something as well. Didn't want to burst your bubble.
Details LNs are still cheap, it's the gradable ones in XF or better or the toughies (60,72)
that still command a good price. IMO.
