SSDC Registry Issue

Post by vamnuke » Sun Nov 24, 2019 11:57 pm

For whatever reason, the SSDC “1878-CC GSA Morgans” set does not and will not recognize my PCGS graded coins. I tried to delete from the registry and re-register, making sure both GSA blocks were checked when registering to no avail. I know PCGS was late into the GSA grading game.

Helping Clay reminded me of a question I have had about logging in GSAs.
Why are there two questions asking if your coin is a GSA?

Probably a bug. This would be a question for John C (@alefzero).

The problem is only with the specialty 1878-CC GSA set. Not an option to add from the drop down box. There’s no problem with the regular 1878-CC set, and I can choose to list in my 1878-First Year Basic set if I wanted to. Anyway, no immediate concern; i’m way far back in a distant 3rd in that set, just hope to plink away as time and $$ permit in the future.

Clay, can't really fix the present issue as it's above my pay grade. It is worth noting the other issue is about to get worse as I will soon add another piece to the set. I found a VAM 7 in a soft pack - just need to get it graded. Down to only 3 VAMs that remain unknown in GSA packs for this date.

Congrats, JR! I’m sure you’ll find the remaining 3. I try to add one here or there. I have an ungraded & unattributed V13 in a hard case coming in the mail; will likely come your way at FUN. My guess is 62/63; should have better idea once in hand. The 78 GSA set is quite the challenge.

A VAM 13 in GSA is pretty tough. I've seen a few in hard packs and a couple in soft now. Of the VAMs that are known, only the 24A has eluded me. Always looking, but yeah, this is a tough set, Several of the pieces in my set have remained the only known examples. I welcome more competition as it shakes more pieces loose and helps determine if the apparently rare stuff actually is rare.

It's kinda disturbing, but I've been building a Paramount holder set too. Up to six now, VAMs 2A, 11, 14A, 15, 17 and 27. I've seen a VAM 9 in a red holder but didn't pull the trigger at the time because I thought it was overpriced for what it is.

It's gotta be that the PCGS pieces aren't recognized in the GSA set search yet because of their long history of cracking the holders and just noting GSA on their slab.
I just added a Heritage archived VAM 27 PCGS 66+ to the census (current top pop) and while it shows up in the regular 78-CC set census, it's not there for the GSA set
