CAC useless??
CAC useless??
Got back 3 coins my friend sent out to PCGS with their order. I was trying to complete my personal 121 coin Morgans business set (greysheet plus rest my favorite VAMs) all PCGS. I was stunned to find that none of the NGC coins crossed even the one that was CAC labeled. I must assume that the PCGS grader is more astute than the people at NGC and CAC combined. This isn't the 1st time this year that NGC coins didn't cross. I had 15 NGC coins that I had at the start of the year. My friend submitted 12 for me in their order. I got back 9 that did not cross, eight MS 65's and a AU55(1880 VAM 23). I cracked them out of the NGC slabs and my friend sent them back raw with their order. Lo and behold they came back as 8 MS 65's and a AU 53. Amazing how they (the 65's) morphed in their new PCGS slabs. These 3 coins(valued $2-4K each) are now permanently going to stay NGC, I refuse to blow any more cash with the dog and pony show I've been thru this past year. As for now it's 104 Unc and 17 circ's(lowest XF 40) and my wallet thanks me.

Re: CAC useless??
It's pretty much throwing away money to try to cross NCG slabbed coins to PCGS IMO.
Re: CAC useless??
Well look here!!!! if you submit your coins to PCGS in other holders, your pissing your time
and money down the drain. PCGS - Well known in industry to be so adverse
to competitors holders. In your situation, I would break em all and send raw,
hence, guaranteed a fair shot at grading, withot PCGS bullshit
I break out ANACS mirrored Morgans and submit to PCGS raw all the time.
I pick the examples that i believe are way to conservative graded by Anacs,
with great sucess. So it shows that each service is vulnerable, but PCGS IMHO
is the bully of the TPG services with to much power

Re: CAC useless??
What is the PCGS crossover to NGC? Just curious. I agree it is best to crack them out and send them raw.
Re: CAC useless??
Nothing new here. CAC was never a guaranteed crossover. If a holder is scratched up at all, your chances of a successful crossover go way down. It doesn't matter what service you're crossing from or to, either.

Everyone (and every company) has an opinion.
Nowhere does it say that others will agree with them.

When in doubt... don't.

Re: CAC useless??
Forgive me if this is a ignorant question but how would one get a CAC sticker on a coin already owned?? Thanks
Re: CAC useless??
One either has to have submitting privileges as a CAC collector member (they stopped accepting new members several years ago), or you have to go through a CAC dealer member.
When in doubt... don't.
Re: CAC useless??
Ah, the politics of crossovers! NGC to PCGS rarely succeeds. And you pay either way too! How about the stigma of NGC vs. PCGS too? My customer is in the market for a 1925-S Peace Dollar PCGS MS65. An NGC coin sold in July for $8400 and a PCGS in May for $24,000. No CAC on either. Go figure!
Re: CAC useless??
I have had fairly good success in crossing over both ANACS and NGC to PCGS. But I submit when PCGS is running a "Crossover Special". PCGS only got paid if the coins crossed. The last time PCGS would only get paid $10 if the coin didn't cross.
Also, I had good photos of the original holder and contacted CAC before the crossover. I did not have a problem getting a new CAC sticker.
Best of luck.

Re: CAC useless??
When I said "good photos of the original holder", they were quality digital photos that CAC was able to see details about the coin. That way they knew it was the exact same coin. Also, the new holder still had to be submitted through a CAC dealer. CAC would not take the coin directly from meljs123 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 4:48 pmI have had fairly good success in crossing over both ANACS and NGC to PCGS.
