1921 p Morgan VAM 3K2 (LDS) confirmation attempts:

Post by Geseas » Mon Nov 11, 2019 9:04 pm

Thank you for your time.

Hoping you see a simularity in these two photos.
One is a 21p Vam
3K2, the other is a discovered coin from a Colorado collection that
my wife thinks I altered with a fine drafting pencil.

It's VAM 3K-something.

Does yours have a big diamond-shaped die break (laying on its side) between obverse left stars 2 & 3? If it does then it's 3K2. If it doesn't then it's 3K1.
When in doubt... don't.

Thank you for your confirmation DHalladay. Continuing on this learning curve I am enjoying, may I ask what would have to happen to this vam 3k2 for it to become a 3k3?
I appreciate your patience.

able to decide so quickly from this given photo that, indeed, this is a 3K_ type Vam? (Any comments on a learning curve are appreciated. )

Anything to warrant a listing of VAM 3K3 would have to involve a dramatic change in the breaks on the obverse, such as formation of a retained or full cud. Minor displaced field stuff isn't going to cut it. See also 1921-D VAM 1H1 through 1H4.

The 1921 D mintage is loaded with LDS specimens! Dramatic die break progressions and die gouges will
warrant such LDS listings. Examples that I associate with are 1921 D Vams 1I3 1K3 1L3 1N3 1P3 1W3 1AA3 1DL3

I think you may be saying I have to wait till my new found 21p Vam 3K2, forms a real die chip. in the area of cracks I have pictured here, to get my Vam 3K3:

: This may take awhile....

Great example, those 1H's. I learned something.
