I need help with my 1881 S

I bought this 1881 S, only because it is in my favorite gold embossed thick NGCMS64 slab and it looked shinny and pretty.
I looked through the 1881 S vams and I didn't see a vam, with a doubled ear or profile.
I think the eye is doubled too, like the 1887 alligator eye.
Here are a lot of pictures.
Does the ear, profile and eye look doubled to you?
Does the N, in UNUM look normal?
I saw no clashes.
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Bert

Bert; The 1881 S is a tough one to vam usually, simply due to so many and quite a few have
subtle PUP'S.

I always check date for doubling and metal in 8"s
I wont attempt to vam yours as im not that good at them

OBV= DDO 2x profile- metal 1st 8 - check 2nd 8 for metal check date doubling
Die file lines present tell me its a quality example - many times SPL -PL/DMPL
ALWAYS LOOK FOR MIRRORS when lots of die file lines are present ON 1880 S/1881 S
EAR DOUBLED- 1881 s not known for clashing
Eye= not sure from pics
Rev-ck for doubling & mint mark position / doubling/die scratches

Im sure you will receive lots help on this one

Have you looked through the spike in 8 section?

Thank you Scott and Chris,
I had looked through all of the 1881 S vams, including the spiked 8 vams before I posted it.
I saw none, that looked like mine.
I saw none, that had a doubling, in the ear or the profile.
Maybe I'm seeing things, do you think the ear and profile, shows doubling?
Since I didn't see any vams like mine, with the above die markers, I was thinking I might have a new vam.

Yup. Ear, profile, nose. But, those things tend to be overlooked by LVA in my experience. Maybe it was an older thing with him that he rarely lists as PUPs today. Or, maybe he still uses them if the coin is generic aside ear / profile doubling. Not sure. What about date doubling? He loooves date doubling for some strange reason. Cant stand it personally. Makes it so hard to nail a coin down with 50 coins listed for similar but slightly different date doubling.

I would focus on mint mark position next..

Okay thank you Chris,
You started me on a thorough search of all of the spiked 8 vams again.
I think I have attributed my 1881 S.
The tripled stars were very hard, for me to see, but I see the tripling now.
I was wondering how to contact Russ, to see if his discovery vam 65, has doubling on three parts of the ear and the profile and maybe get these pictures on the vam 65 page, if they are?

Other than the star, I'm not convinced of the other stuff you point to as doubling. They look like they could simply be reflections.

Tough to attribute this one, but the real question is why does the 1 ear photo have 3 penis drawings on it?

I think bhinkle is pointing out that the Bible condemns phallic worship but nobody has ears to hear.

VERY FUNNY Mitch and FLAT-CHESTED
Lets try and stay focused here children.
My photo shop doesn't have arrows, to position on the pictures,
so trying to draw, an arrow likeness, is the only way I can point
out an area of interest.
Getting back to my 1881 S, does it look like a vam 65 and maybe
to confirm my pictures of the ear and profile doubling, does anyone
have an 1881 S vam 65, to compare?
Thanks, Bert

After everyone is done laughing, at my attempts, to draw arrows.
Does anyone have an 1881 S vam 65 and is the ear doubled?
Russ, since you discovered it, do you still have your discovery coin?
Thanks, Bert

I guess flat chested has a hard time staying focused on the purpose of this site.
Stay focused honey and get your mind out of the gutter.

"I guess flat chested has a hard time staying focused on the purpose of this site.

That is similar to what I said in 1988, I criticized the churches for incorporating phallic symbols in their church architecture, and for incorporating other pagan fertility rites into their rituals, but nobody had ears to hear, I was repeatedly arrested and tortured for years in psychiatric facilities at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon (the CIA funded torture research at the U of S for decades), they said that I think too much about penises but it is not me who places Egyptian dinks on the roofs of churches. So I come to VAMWorld to focus on coins, and thank God for my days and the blessings He provides.
