1921-P VAM 13A pix & question
1921-P VAM 13A pix & question
Received this somewhat EDS coin today and noticed something that isn't on my other 13A (which is not EDS at all) – a polishing line that goes from the top of Liberty's cap and through the bottom loop of the S in PLURIBUS. Does anyone else have this feature on their coin?
When in doubt... don't.

Yes.
Will try to get photo later.

I don't see it on any of my examples. Must be VEDS.

Die is showing wear, as well as the coin.
But for a quick and dirty, I think this is it.
As usual, it's more apparent "in hand."

Re: 1921-P VAM 13A pix & question
Kurt: That's it! Thank you.
Now the next question is... is it also on VAM 13? I don't have one of those to be able to give an answer.

My 13A also has the line through the S.
Sorry that I can not help you with a 13.

Re: 1921-P VAM 13A pix & question
I'm stumped - I don't have a V-13.
Re: 1921-P VAM 13A pix & question
So there's some with die scratch and some don't? This is very interesting as now there's a possibility of 2 obv dies. My 13a doesn't have the scratch.
Re: 1921-P VAM 13A pix & question
Dennis, neither of my two recent VAM 13 acquisitions have the scratch. Have a few others of 13 and 13A that I can not verify presently.
Re: 1921-P VAM 13A pix & question
Let me correct myself just rotated under the scope and both have a really fading line. First pi is when I did not see it second is rotated in the light. Your denticles look earlier than mine. Is the 13A the earlier die stage?
Re: 1921-P VAM 13A pix & question
I went back and re-checked my five examples of 13A. Some fiddles with lighting and angles showed remnants of that scratch on two examples (both MS, in holders). The other three do not show the scratch.
The die chips in the ear show up in all examples.

Die chips in the ear are unreliable for 1921 for differentiating dies. It's better to look at the polishing around the cotton bolls or in the hair.

Ok.
I did notice a "railroad track" between the two cotton bolls on my examples.

Ray is correct, after tilting my coin at the right lighting angle, I can see the die scratch on my 13a.
