1883-O VAM 33/33A

Post by raynat3 » Thu Oct 17, 2019 11:03 am

I just read the letter from Leroy to JR about the hub debris in 33A that was part of the discussion on Russ's submission. It appears Leroy said he was revising VAM 33. I did not see the actual revision text and it does not appear anything was changed on VAM 33 in VW listing nor does it state a revision date.

Also should coins that have not actually been discovered have people placing photos on that VW listing?

Yeah, I haven't changed the pages because I'd like to wait for the annual update to see if the revision is actually included. I expect it will be, but....

I'm assuming VAM-33 is just a place holder or is there an actual example without the gouge?

With the revision, the 'gouge' now recognized as 'hubbed thru debris'. They'd all be VAM 33 and it's the 33A that will be eliminated. The defining feature is present on all stages of the die.

I've been casually hunting this one since FUN with no luck. Must be rather scarce..

I have one and always look for second. They're certainly not common like the VAM-4 and 36A....

They are not extremely rare. I have picked up a few in the past few years. Passed over more than I purchased. As expected, have never seen a 33.
