Top Pop Pick for my Broken Mintmark Set
Probably not on a many VAM radar lists but it is on mine. I have a MS63 & MS64 in this VAM but now have found it in a PCGS MS 65. Did not think I would find one at this high of grade but here it is. It has a nice O/O broken mintmark. Still looking for that elusive VAM 29B.

It is VAM 29A. You can find it usually in lower grades. MS 64 & above is much tougher to find. VAM 29B with the chip in the 6th left star on obverse is the elusive one. If you have a VAM 29A attributed before 2017 it might be a VAM 29B. Its worth a check.

Re: Top Pop Pick for my Broken Mintmark Set
Thanks for posting your pics Mike. My ANACS MS63 attributed as VAM 29A after 2017 (VAM 29B was discovered in 2017) has the same star look as yours. I thought it should be VAM 29B. Not sure what the qualification is for becoming VAM 29B for that star to have a chip in it. Maybe one of the experts here can clarify that.

Re: Top Pop Pick for my Broken Mintmark Set
The chip on the 6th left star should be the deciding factor. Sounds like you already have a 29B.

Re: Top Pop Pick for my Broken Mintmark Set
Congrats Patrick on your upgrade !!!! Glad you posted !!!! Wish the old posts were available,as this Vam brought back some old memories. I have a beautiful 1884-O Vam 29B, in a NGC MS63 holder that I call Alan's coin, named after a certain carmudgeon that frequents this site. This coin is not only a Vam 29B, but is the only one that I know of that has a clashed "N" on the reverse. Way back when before the 29B was discovered, this fellow Alan helped me with the attribution of the clashed "N". He may not remember the post, but i'll always think of him when I look at this clashed "N". Thanks Alan !!!!!
Hope I didn't hi-jack your thread Pat,but a good Vam story!!!!

John, I do not remember the post you reference. But if I made it memorable for you, then I must have put my foot into my mouth

Re: Top Pop Pick for my Broken Mintmark Set
John, that is some rotation
, and Pat I wish you could have seen the post. Alan and I were fairly new vammers at the time, so it was awhile ago. Way before he became a top notch study man and Vam author as he is today. With that disclaimer, i'll go over the the post briefly. So, I posted the coin in question and was really saying "How could NGC grade and slab a coin with a punched "N' on the reverse
,but before I asked I decided to have a little fun and acted like the newbie I was and posted "LOOK a NEW VAM, 1884-O Vam 29A w/a clashed "N" on the reverse, something to that effect. Then said "seriously" and asked the original question about NGC. Well Alan missed the "seriously" and tried to let me down easy by saying, "don't think it's a new Vam and explained why. It went on for awhile till J.R. posted a reply saying "I think BJV is pulling your leg". Alan got a little huffy as he sometimes does and used his favorite saying ,next time put "TIC" !!!! To this day, Alan and I are good friends. You meet a lot of them here at VW.

BJV, I do not remember that post, but I do think I remember JR saying the "pulling your leg" thing. But thanks for the story. AAAaahh, the good ol' days.
The friendship thing still continues on this site. I think most of us know who "hangs" with who now-a-days. And the beat goes on.
