Finally a ms65 NGC 38B The Top POP after several yrs looking
SSDC shows quite a few ms64 of which i have 6
Exciting to find this rare grade bird

I'm not saying 38B in 65 is common, but it can be found with a little watching.
I have been watching.
I have seen a few in PCGS MS-65 but they wanted too much.
One in NGC MS-65 sold at the beginning of September, but I did not go for it because it was a poor 65 at best, IMO.

I have an NGC 64 that was previously owned by Pete(vamhusker). He obtained the coin from Dr.Kimpton and I love the history of the coin. It was listed by Mark as a 38A in early August of 2009 for auction. As history goes, later that month it would become the 38B...or at least, that is how I understand the timeline. Feel free to correct me if that is not how these things work! It has been stated that the 7 rarity is not accurate. Either way, I think it is a great Vam and definitely deserving of "WOW" to vammers and those folks not already familiar!

Halco; You are correct in 38B being special coin with obv=Counter clasher
Die break between 2 in date & first right star to reeds
Super die cracks reverse- rust pimples eagle- clashing
Since a bunch found in 64 & down, the R7 rating is probally more like
R 5 or so IMHO. Chris just said he has a ms67 which is a wowser+++
and anything ms65 + is a real tough find. A very few 65 are out there
to my count. Probally not to many vammers looking for ms65+ due to
higher value, but sure neat to pick one in wild. I cant remember exactly
but believe PCGS & NGC dont attrib this one.

easy to pick due to huge die crack Obv = right of 2 in date /between 2
& 1st star all way from hair to reeds & counter clash obv etc
Seems a ms65 or higher feels like R7 to me LOL

The timeline is correct. The provenance makes that coin special. Even though Lee is the “King” of clash now, Mark K was/is the true King.

UPDATE: This 65 Top Pop SSDC is amazingly BOLD BOLD Clashing Example
But, my reason for update is= Obv displays Rust Pimples (Bold) by Zillions
on miss lib face & hair reaching well into fields. Rev is crazy rust pimples on
eagle breast/wings. Die file lines very bold noticible on both sides just like on
1880 s & 1881 s PL/DMPL

This coin is not PL - and misses ms66 by some smashing above Libs Ear
A beautiful ms 65 in any holder IMHO. The clashing episodes are much bolder
than any of the ms64 examples i have. Exciting beauty

The rust pimples are much bolder than most O/S i have seen, and ive seen
thousands, as the self appointed 1882 o/s King LOL

By the way- I just found another 1882 o/s v4 EDS in PCGS 60 NAOH within
my massive collection
