97 p what i think is a proof die

Some all the stuff on this coin matches the proof but ill let yall decide

The areas around the eyes match up the claw of the right foot matches the designers intials match

Worth noting is the top of the diagnal lines above the tail feathers are identical

I have search all the vams my coin has nothing double and no die clashes so eliminates almost all of them and the normal date dont match either

When looking to ID a given years VAM from about 1880 forward you need to start off by looking at the date position.

Much of your frustration comes from looking at things not in the official listing. This is due to the fact if everything was in the listing each VAM would have a full page and we have far over 5500 VAMs listed. The 1 thing to look at is the dates position, Far date is 2 plus denticles from the neck point on the viewers right hand side. Normal date is 2 denticles, and Near date is 1 to 2 denticles. Then you have Normal, High and low dates, some will be Near, Far and Normal date position.


This will narrow your search in many cases. I think your looking at trees and by looking so close your missing the forest.

Obverse dies are not a match to to proof photographed. Look for die polish lines in the corner of the eye...

Vampicker i have about abandoned the proof die theroy but i belive its a strong contender for vam 8

Thing i dont get is scribble lines are unique to a certain coin i thought they woukd be list in the vam description for sure i thought tjat would be a dead give away to what vam it is
