New 1897-O VAM-6C
Got this back from LVA recently. A new listing for a displaced field break which I have shown on this site before.
Note that it is an unlisted die pair, that matches the base VAM-6 description. But it does not match the VAM-6A/6B description or VAM Plates. So this is an example of a "multiple die pairs may exist" situation. Without the displaced break, it would just be called a VAM-6, but would be a different die pair than the EDS of VAM-6A/6B which would also be a VAM-6.

Can you tell me what grade this coin was in? It appears to be in a NGC holder?
Thanks

But, the coin I have, has a near date and a low date. Which to you go with first? Secondly the obverse has III2-6 as well as III2-10. It also has attributes that are on neither. I absolutely love
This stuff. Being an investigator for longer than I care to mention, it’s putting it all together. I guess sometimes missing the smallest thing on the coins is the difference. Any suggestions?

Lateral position is more important when trying to figure these out.K9coinhunter wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 12:56 amI am working this VERY coin as I login to ask a question I see this.

You're falling into a very common misconception. A coin doesn't "have" multiple VAMs or come from multiple obverse dies. It has multiple features that come from a single die. If you are seeing something that has some traits of two different dies, but an exact match to them, it isn't either of those dies and you need to keep looking.
Secondly the obverse has III2-6 as well as III2-10. It also has attributes that are on neither.
Make sure you read and understand the Attribution 101 page. Glad you find this an enjoyable fit for having been an investigator!I absolutely love This stuff. Thanks to JB for fielding the other traps mentioned in your response. An additional one: you can't be "working this VERY coin" because you don't own it - I know who does!K9coinhunter wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 12:56 amI am working this VERY coin as I login to ask a question I see this.

I've not seen if you've started a separate post on your coin, including high quality photos so we might help you, but I'd strongly encourage it. I'm sure others would like to help you as I would.

Touché
. Very valid point on this exact coin. I am working a very similar 1897-P, I haven’t started a thread as I want to do my diligence and exhaust all of my limited knowledge and research abilities before hindering anyone as it seems newer collectors with limited knowledge and experience whom are truly interested and passionate about their hobby are somewhat subpar and are a nuisance. Snubbed or not welcomed ad noted in way too many responses commonly found here.
♂️ observations gentlemen and ladies.

Sorry to hear you've experienced being snubbed or not feeling welcomed. I've, thankfully, not been the recipient of direct 'attacks' but have watched all too many occur. Our new posting rules have thus far helped keep them at a minimum so hopefully your experiences going forward will be much improved.K9coinhunter wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 5:19 pmTouché.
