I need help with my 1904 O

Post by bhinkle » Tue Jul 03, 2018 5:26 am

I have this 1904 O PCGSMS64PL, that I couldn't find anything
until I looked at it, with my digital microscope and finally
saw the doubling along the profile and then started to see
a lot of cool things, like all of the diagonal polishing lines all
over the reverse.
Around and inside of the bow and on both sides and in the
wreath.
All through the tail feathers, above and below the arrow
and olive leaves branch, in the 'middle' of the eagle's
neck, through the letters of WE TRUST, in IGWT.
I'm not sure if I see a die chip, in the right wreath,
below the R, in AMERICA, for a vam 11A.
I see nothing under the M, in UNUM.
Do you think it is a vam 11 or vam 11A?
Thank you, Bert

Here are some of the very impressive diagonal polishing
lines all over the reverse.
Around and inside of the bow.
All through the tail feathers, above and below the arrow
and olive leaves branch, in the 'middle' of the eagle's
neck, through the letters of WE TRUST, in IGWT.
Again can anyone please tell, if they see a die chip,
in the right wreath, below the R, in AMERICA, for a vam 11A.
Thanks, Bert

Very nice presentation of what appears to be a VAM-11.

The "chip" on the wreath appears to be an analog event. Someone (LVA) has to decide whether it has grown enough to warrant attribution. Thus, you have to decide not only if it is a chip, but if is it enough of a chip. Notice that it is called a break in the heading/subheading and a chip in the figure caption. I think of a break as analog event and a chip as digital event. Nonetheless, chips and breaks are known to grow. I suspect this coin would be attributed as 11. To be more confident, I would want to see more verification of the die 4 markers.
