8TF grading set in attributed PCGS holders

Post by mark » Tue Apr 30, 2019 4:24 am

I have (for now) completed my 8TF grading set in attributed PCGS holders. Every grade is a different variety. I'd like to add a MS66 at some point. Just to make it more interesting I tried to include rarer varieties. About half are imaged at PCGS. Might send the rest in to get imaged since PCGS is running a Trueview special.

PO01 - VAM-8
FR02 - VAM-21
AG03 - VAM-14.10
G04 - VAM-14.9
G06 - VAM-14.13
VG08 - VAM-14.8
VG10 - VAM-19
F12 - VAM-1
F15 - VAM-10
VF20 - VAM-2
VF25 - VAM-14.16
VF30 - VAM-14.14
VF35 - VAM-23
XF40 - VAM-14.5
XF45 - VAM-16
AU50 - VAM-14.15
AU53 - VAM-5
AU55 - VAM-9
AU58 - VAM-14.3
MS60 - VAM-22
MS61 - VAM-3
MS62 - VAM-14.6A
MS63 - VAM-15
MS64 - VAM-4
MS65 - VAM-17

Cool set! Full complement of A1n reverses, too. That ain't easy.

That's a remarkable achievement (especially getting an identifiable VAM-anything in Poor-01!!), and there are some very tough coins included.

Bravo!
When in doubt... don't.

Yes, attributing a PO01 8TF is nearly impossible. Luckily the VAM-8 has some features you can identify even on a poor coin. In fact it's the only PO01 8TF that PCGS has attributed. There are only 2 attributed FR02's. One is my VAM-21 and the other is a VAM-8.

I'd like to attempt an attributed 7TF grading set but I have yet to find a PO01 or FR02 that I could attribute. PCGS has zero in PO01 or FR02. Just not sure it's going to be possible. I did have a VAM-140 in FR02 but sold it before PCGS attributed the variety. I'm really bummed I didn't keep it now. It was actually an accident and didn't mean to sell it at the time.. UG.

I have a VAM 115 in FR2, but PCGS wouldn't attribute it since you couldn't see the cotton bolls. There aren't many varieties that will be attributable in PO1. 113, 171, 189 come to mind as possibilities, and maybe 84 and 188.

Yes, one of the long nocks or broken r reverses might be possible. I have a few 7 and 7/8TF coins in AG03. If anyone has a FR02 that can be attributed by PCGS let me know! :)

Too bad you missed the deadline for their digital album awards. It's way cooler than some of the nominees.

Yeah, I saw the nominees and was shocked how boring some are. Modern quarters?

Maybe next year.

Not just the quarters, but also the hockey pucks, with a stock photo used for the obverse. One of the qualifications for being nominated was owner comments, and several sets have none at all.
