Slag mark. Its from the slag (impurities) in the alloy when being melted that isnt completely removed. It gets "baked into the cake" of the metal so to speak

I agree with impurities. There is no deformity in the devices.

Heres a very large one that was accidentally sent through regular service and given a details grade due to the size. Its back now under error service and should grade...

That's a big planchet inculsion. It makes sense that they body-bagged it as a normal coin, since it's has a big negative effect on eye appeal.
