1880 NGCMS64 VAM 11A

Post by bhinkle » Thu Apr 11, 2019 10:31 pm

Since I can't search through some of my past posts, on the old Vamworld, I thought I would post some of my most ,memorable finds on the new Vamworld, so I don't have to go to the bank to enjoy looking at them.
Here are pictures of my 1880 NGCMS64 VAM 11A and at the time I had posted it, I was told, that it was the highest grade known, which had only increased the excitment of spotting it and in an older thick NGC slab, to boot.
Enjoy, Bert

I think its borderline - looks 63 to me
A lot of chatter in the fields and cannot tell but looks like some hair wear
and a couple of breast feather hits
Still I like the ol bricks :-)

I think 64 is probably accurate. The low light angle you're using is brutal, catching every little nothing. The full slab obverse is much kinder. I'll bet it looks much nicer in hand.... :)

I know I can make a 65 look like a 63 with the wrong lighting,,,,

The finest known attribution is hardly true though. I have a couple PCGS 65 and probably have handled at least a dozen certified in 64. The VAM-11 is actually scarcer, though I have it in PCGS 66, but fewer overall.

Some 11A are better looking then others! Don't know if they are smarter! :D

I just looked at it closely and I think it is a SOLID MS64 and I couldn't be happier and in the old thick NGC plastic.
At the time, that I first posted it on the old Vamworld, maybe ten or so years ago for attribution, that is when I was told, by a Vamworld member, that the MS 64 was the highest grade known, that is why I put that on my slab.
Its like a beautiful woman, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I am the beholder, in this case and I think it is an OUTSTANDING example. .
You bring up a good point alefzero, I was going through some of my coins, at the bank and grabbed a couple to bring home and enjoy looking at.
I know that first 8 well and I know I have posted pictures of my 1880's on the old Vamworld, that the 8 has that unique look.
That is why loosing all of the old posts, is hard on old guys, like me.
I used to be able to search through my old posts easily and look up all of my vams and pictures.

It is the chip on the neck point that is the fast PUP. I used to note the cert number to just register at The Registry when I see them at tables at shows or in auctions. Lately, I have not taken the time.
