1902 O V74 Pics for LDMG

Post by jrfaust » Sat Mar 30, 2019 3:14 pm

Hello All! I've got a 1902 O that I believe is a VAM 74. There are no current pics on the 74 page and I noticed there is a request from Alan to contact him when pics are available. I sent Alan a PM about posting pics as well. Here are the pics and hopefully Alan or someone can verify what I believe is a 74 :D
I can only post 5 pics at a time but will post more pics in next reply which will include full pics of Obv and REV.
Thanks again everyone for your help!

Looks like a V74.

Just make sure it is not a V83. They both share the same reverse die. A straight close-up shot of the date and the RI in PLURIBUS will tell the tale.

The long crack at the right wreath up to M in AMERICA was inherited from the V83 die marriage. Thus all V74s have this crack.

Thanks Alan, here's a pick of date, RI and die crack from wreath to M in America. Would you like me to have all the pics added to the page?

Yup, VAM-74. Not far off of PL with the polishing lines. The die pair starts in PL. Nice coin.

Thanks so much Alan, it's in a Gen 1.2 PCGS slab at MS64. Reverse looks PL, Obverse looks close to PL (IMHO) Yes, lots of file lines on both sides :D

Wayne, would you add the pics to the page? Again. thanks soooooooooooo much! :D

Wayne, I might suggest that the only photos necessary on the V74 page are the date placement, mint mark placement, and crack from right wreath up to the M in AMERICA. These are the constants for this die pair. All the other photos change with die state. The other photos open up the possibility of folks down the line saying, "But my coin has XXXX, but the VW page does not show it. Or my coin does not have the XXX shown on the VW page, so should it be sent to Leroy?"

In the case of VAMming, more is not necessarily better.

Jody,

Can you take a photo of the mint mark placement (back out the view)? I can crop the LFCP of the reverse, but it will probably be of a lower quality. The other adjustments have been made.
