You Have To BeliEEEEEve!... 1889-P VAM-43A with 5+ Clashes...

Post by TheYokel » Sun Mar 24, 2019 3:11 am

Incoming wall of pictures... Apologies gentlemen and ladies.

So I'll list out the details and let you all ponder the pictures and tell me what you think. They polished the ba-jesus out of her mouth and tiara/hair...

Die clashed six (6) times.

Obverse:
Clashed mouth.
Clashed cap.
Clashed neck (x3) with N.
"UST" in the vee (giggity).
Wheat leaves and transfer above the hair.

Reverse:

M above God?.
Clashed mouth (x3).
Clashed cap (x6).
Wing/neck clash (x4).
Nose bridge (x2) and eyeball clash.
Bearded Eagle.

...and an E?

The first picture is of the neck to show it doesn't have the cracks of the 19B1/2...

I'm working on making my new udb score work. Once i get it dialed in I'll see if i can get any different angles/lighting...

Edit: here's the harsh polishing...

I hate to burst your bubble but I don't think so.
The only pic that looks like there might be an E, it isn't where it should be.

Do you have a pic of the Cottonboll clash? ;)

I hadn't seen the date on the title but now I'm sure its a no go for an E.

Why would the date exclude there being a clash?

Where should I look for the cotton clash boss? Eyeballing it I can imagine it should be around the arrows?

Yup, right above the arrowheads. Check out 91-O VAM-1A for reference.

Yours actually reminds me of the VAM-40A1 or 40A2.

I thought 19B2 or 40A2 but 19B2 has the date cracks and 40A2 has a completely different N placement and clearly only has two clashed caps on the reverse. Also mine has no die chips in the date.

Lightly clashed above the arrows and interestingly it looks like the curl of the bonnet is clashed in the olive branch...

I don't see any letter clashes but it could be your lighting. Set up an indirect light source (table lamp) from the side and rotate your coin until.you get the best contrast that shows the letters. Is this the coin you posted the other day from seller pics?

I do believe that is the V43A
Always best to start with date placement

I agree with Mitch that it's a V-43A, I got a PCGS MS-64 off the bay around the first of February

Not the same coin, no sir. This was a shot at a wing bar from a horrible photo that turned out to be much more interesting lol.

This is the best picture i can get so far. I don't have an interior room set up to light-proof myself yet and at 0830 the sun blasts through every room in the house drowning out my shadows :?

You can see a smaller clash mark above the noticeable one. Directly below the harder clash line is a shadowy "hook" that looks like it begins the outline of the N. If you look in the OP there's a picture of her neck clash from behind her head that I tried to show it in.

The Vee (giggity) i dunno.... I can get a picture of the clash in between the cap folds, but I think either I need more practice at photo'ing or my loupe is lying to me...

There's also another wing clash on the reverse that is angle in from above her neck. You can see it intersect the middle of the N and form a triangle above the motto with the other clash lines. This coin is highly confusing...

I'll spend the weekend working on it and see what pics I can get.

I'll yank it back out of the flip after the sun hits the other side of the house. Literal VAMpire over here...
