Cool ERROR -not- PMD... Change my mind!

Got this in a bulk buy and at first glance I thought it was just a massive, hard bag it. Well, I see no pushed metal and the area is shiny. Looks to me like a Struck-thru previously struck delaminated fragment. The only thing that's strange to me is what appears to be a second set of denticles/reeds under the first set. Was it two fragments that randomly ended up on the die/planchet overlapping one another OR was it one longer fragment that folded over either before, or during, the striking of this coin? What say the brain trust??

Darn sexy coin too! 😎

Being at the bottom of a bag with 1000 coins worth of weight and a sideways coin landing on top of it when thrown into a truck might have done it...?

Whatever hit it flattened the eagle wing and took some original surface luster off with it. You can see the surface variation...

Reed hit from another coin. Probably when the bag was thrown.

CC, Cooler than cool. So cool. that it made me feel the force. What might your favorite grader say? I summoned Lord Vader and he said NO WAY on being a baggy, too extreme yet so perfect. I'm anxious to here what the "brainiacs" have to say. My vote is new variety called "eagle having bad feather day". Thanks for sharing.

May the force be with you!!!

You're hardly the first and won't be the last to bite on an atypical bagmark. I made this mark on a quarter a couple of years ago to settle a similar question. Hold the edge of one reeded coin on the face of another coin and give it a firm tap with a hammer. Voila!

If you're not doing it on purpose, toss the bags around as noted by others.

You can see why I questioned it though. A-typical for sure. Thanks for posting a pic of a known hard, deep hit. With mine, I saw no striations or pushed metal and it also somewhat has the "look" of a S/T rather than a bag hit but it still seemed kind of "off" to me due to how deep it is and also how "extended" and "cone-head" so to speak the shape of the ridges are. It would have had to have been one hell of a thick sheared fragment to Imprint so deeply were it a S/T.

Nice call morganman! I was so distracted with the original intent of the post I missed it the first time. Recently sold a vam 11 in a NGC 64 holder.
