Wiki page sample
I've been working on automating the importing of the old wiki into a new one. Naturally, the markup is not the same between what was exported from Wikispaces and what needs to be imported into Mediawiki, Mediawiki ignores line breaks between text lines, and there are some characters in filenames that cause problems in the translation, as well.
The first link is a sample page (79-O VAM 4) from my current automated translation script. Obviously, I missed some things the first time through.

The second one is the same page, but with a lot of stuff fixed that can also be automated. One additional thing I did was present the full-coin shots as a gallery. Only one side shows at a time, but you click the arrows above the coin to flip it over. The little picture icon centered above the coin turns thumbnails on and off. Only the gallery presentation and removal of the pricing and population info aren't automated at this point. I had to code the gallery manually, but the encoding is very easy.

Thanks for your work.

Re: Wiki page sample
Good job John. Really like the gallery option. Is the gallery option going to be standard?
Re: Wiki page sample
Yes. It can be put on any page. I'd encourage its use for full-coin shots as well as collections of "additional photos" that aren't primary pick-ups on a coin.

Re: Wiki page sample
In addition, I see when you click on a LFCP it takes you to the file page. From there if you click on the photo it enlarges it. Neat!
Re: Wiki page sample
From an old guys point of view. It was easy on the eyes and I could scroll thru and relate to what I was looking at and reading. The flipping of the large pics from OBV to Rev was a 'cool' change. I'm adjusting, I don't like it(the fact that I'm able to adjust that is!)...

looks good
not sure why there is 2 headers for the page? can we eliminate 1
space between the pics and the text neede. the text goes above the picture and after a picture a space before the new text and new pic ture start.

Re: Wiki page sample
If you look closely, they're different sizes. The first is the page title, the second is the the VAM heading at the "heading 1" level. The same thing happens on the current VAMWorld VAM pages, but they are separated enough that they don't look like duplicates. The two options here are eliminating the topmost header from each page or demoting it to a lower level to make it look more like it currently does. Demoting it is probably the way to go, since it contains additional information on the VAM pages. In the next version (which I haven't tested yet), I will also be promoting the "LVA Photos" and "Additional Photos" to a higher level so that they look more like section headers, and adding a "Full Coin Photos" section on pages where I can detect it automatically.
This is a sample page that is laid out the same way as the current 79-O VAM 4 page. It is one that should be cleaned up to make it more legible and usable. I expect there to be the need to clean up other pages as well, since the automated conversion script isn't going to pick up everything on all 8000+ pages without a glitch.space between the pics and the text neede. the text goes above the picture and after a picture a space before the new text and new pic ture start.

Re: Wiki page sample
I just updated this page again. Now the different sections are level 2 headers, which causes a table of contents to be generated automatically at the top. It can be hidden by the user and perhaps always hidden by user preferences. I'll have to see if it can be moved to the right and not take up vertical space. You can click on things in the table of contents and go directly to that section of the VAM page. Still a work in progress.

Re: Wiki page sample
Certainly looks familiar. Congratulations. I like the TOC option. I made a minor change to the main heading to reflect agreement with the subheading. It seems that the heading in VW10 has a typo.
Re: Wiki page sample
I'd say the error is actually is the other way around. O/Horizontal O makes more sense than O/O horizontal, because the latter is less clear as to exactly what is horizontal. It may, however, be more consistent with other positional indicators in repunched mint marks that Leroy uses (S/S down, O/O left, etc). Then again, the position and description of the secondary mint mark are two different things, making me think that "X/description X position" would be best, but I digress.LorenAlbert wrote: ↑Fri Jun 22, 2018 8:21 amCertainly looks familiar. Any edits done to the new pages now will probably be lost, as I will be further testing conversion scripts and re-importing pages. The best thing to do now is to check the old pages for errors and get those fixed before I lock them down and transfer them. There'll probably be plenty of work on other things that slip through during the transfer that time spent now fixing these smaller errors on VW 1.0 is time well spent.

Re: Wiki page sample
Oh. That makes sense. I thought it was a simple translation error equivalent to O/Down O in place of O/O down.
