Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this, but I can UNEQUIVICALLY CONFIRM that my 22b discovery coin has all the breaks of the 22c...
So, Burch, for the record, you have a 22c as described... that matches my 22b DP. All cleared up now?

Got it,
🤬,
clear as a Muddy stream after a down pour in the mountains outside State College.
Is there a pic of an area that could clear up this Gideons knot?

For now, I will consider 22C & 22B one and the same, leaving another hole in my set that can't get filled...

Anyone know who has the 22c discovery? This could probably get resolved pretty quickly if theirs and mine met at Leroy’s house...

Does it have to be the discovery coin or just a 22C?

Mike,
Some might have it in there collection and not know it or might find one in the wild. One was listed for sale before. Not sure if Leroy needs the Discovery piece or just a 22C to compare.

@messydesk can you check to see who uploaded the 22C listing to the page?

Since it was migrated along with everything else last year, the history starts with the migration script. Leroy does keep track of who discovered what, so an e-mail could resolve that.

Since Rob has the 22B discovery coin, it might actually be sufficient to send that for the purpose of either clarifying the difference or eliminating VAM 22C, although I still think asking for guidance in an e-mail might be the way to go first. Meanwhile, I'll echo Alan's lament and also not use VAM 22C until there's proof that there's a difference.

Chief posted the plates
So Rob and Chief should send their DC's
to LVA at the same time so coordination would be needed

Just my opinion, but I always feel the actual discovery coins are the only way to get a clear resolution(because any other “22c” could be a different die state). I’ll be happy to send my coin to the Chief... it’s already be half way to Leroy then!😎

Hopefully the individuals who created Vam 22 C can put this mystery to bed by
Sending the discovery coins back to LVA. Dup’s are expensively hard to kill.
I know, I’ve kill one : 78-s Vam 87 & with the help of two other Vammers about to kill 78-s Vam 67.
Our community needs to continually Guard against and help each other in this effort.
Peace ✌️

i'm so very glad to read this as i found a 22b/c today and was trying to decipher which one it was by the vam pages and although i was trying to do it on the fly, it is good to know i didn't pass up on some major rarity as the pops would indicate for 22c.

if it is still avail i may go back and buy it as a fun controversial coin and there are still several through the 6500 vams, that still need worked out.

glad to see the 88-o v1g vs 31 was cleared up although i've never seen the spike under the flag on the 1 on the 4-6 examples i've found.

What to do in this vam community??
both can be done. eventually, some coins will be sent, it will be straightened out and we'll move on to the next one to untangle.

the one i picked up has major polishing lines in Liberty, the ear is very heavily polished away, along with the hair area. the clashing at neck is over half gone and the hair-vee lower clash is gone completely. no grease at neck or jaw.

there is some good commentary about a, b, c stages.

there is a noticeable difference between 22a, 22b and 22c just from the images on the pages. the 22b images are an earlier die state to be sure from the 22c. whether or not it should be, i'm not going to comment.

for those looking to obtain one of each, it is doable as the die states are far enough apart.

the one i picked up, for better or worse, is an xf that looks like its been passed through the digestive tract of a rhinoceros.
