Picture tutorial?

Post by VamHelsing » Sun Feb 10, 2019 5:45 pm

I can't find the tutorial on taking photos of coins... Finally got a decent camera (Nikon D3100) and want
to start taking photos for a project I'm working on. Any other tips, tricks, setups, etc would be greatly
appreciated!!

John

Go to the home page and click on section six (Coin Photography). The are numerous articles there that should help you out.

Thank you, Wayne! I watched and saved the link! It's very helpful. If I can break it down into those components I might get some decent photos. Cans.... magic stuff!!

I've been using the Nikon SB-R200 wireless closeup Speedlight flashes, I have four of these, when I use all four then it seems that all the imperfections on the coin show themselves off in the photograph. If you want your coin to look better, then hit the coin with lighting from fewer directions (by using fewer flashes).

It's from 2011, so when I discuss camera models at the end, they're all obsolete. I also talk about using a tripod and point-and-shoot rather than a copy stand and DSLR, since the goal was to present something people could put together for under $200, but the techniques are the same either way.
