!878-P Broken M & N

Post by Scootersdad » Sun Jun 10, 2018 3:09 pm

Was wondering what the consensus of die progression of the 6 Obverses were?
Do they follow numerical order?
31-40-110-145-162-200
thanks in advance

They aren't necessarily the same dies. The broken M & N is a result of the hub breaking (like the broken 'r' on trust or the 4th left star point). We can probably assume that the VAM 200 die was not made first, since it was paired with a Rev. of 79, but there's not even a guarantee of that. It might be possible to put together a hub progression for the no more than 6 obverse dies that were used here, based on the deterioration of the N and M, but different amounts of basining of the dies before putting them into service might make this difficult.

Thanks for the response Messydesk. In looking a little closer to the descriptions vams 31. 40 and 110 listed as obv 11/1-8,
vams 162 and 145 obv 11/1-25 and vam 200 obv 11/1-39.
Only mention of progression says vam 162 followed vam 145. On my examples, I noticed not all had the same star doubling and die chip on ear.
