It's a common date that I wasn't even looking for.
But the seller's photos
blew me away and I just couldn't stop looking. So
BAM!
Let's play guess the grade on this.

- 1879-S 19099774 close small obv.jpg (234.28 KiB) Viewed 8470 times

- 1879-S 19099774 close small rev.jpg (269.75 KiB) Viewed 8470 times
SO the coin arrived today and it looked almost nothing like the seller's images. Total fun with Photoshop.
It's already been mailed back.

ANACS 64
PCGS 65
NGC 66
I may not be the best, but I do not know anyone better.

Looks like a PCGS holder, so I'll say it was part of a bulk submission and got a 65 label?
Send it to JR and he'll put it in the 64DMPL holder it deserves!

I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?

Actually, I thought I saw a cameo or DMPL label in the bay of E this past week. I think it was a 79-S too...

I'm at a 5 and while the frost is there, and the mirrors do seem deep, it looks like there's a tad too much cartwheel going on for DMPL. Maybe though, depending on the generation of slab..

Scott, DMPL isn't a measure of contrast. It's solely a measure of depth of field reflectivity.
If old holder, I'm leaning more towards 6PL now the more I look at it, with still an outside shot at DM.

Thank you, thank you... now send it to ANACS to complete my prediction.
VERY sharp pick Dennis!
I cracked a plain old 64 out and it came back 63 Cameo DMPL. When JR looked at it all he said was "someone had a bad day!"
I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?
