1892 O - duplicate listing?

Post by lured_in_again » Mon Jan 14, 2019 4:56 pm

VAM 3 says multiple pairing might exist, perhaps the doubling was missed on the earlier VAM listing. The pitting looks to be the same on both examples? VAMs 20 http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... 2-O_VAM-20 and 3a http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... 2-O_VAM-3A

Sure does looks like a match. Maybe the John's can give us some light on this?

Unless there is something different on the reverse, the pitting is about as good of a fingerprint as any that show this to be a unique die. The doubled 8 is faint enough that could have been missed when first inspected, or worn off the die in a later die stage. I changed the comment on the VAM 3A page and will only use VAM 20 to describe this coin when I see it. Only Leroy can officially delist it.

Nice catch.

I have a V3A(my attribution) if anyone needs to use it.
