Any ideas on this 1882-P? (UPDATE new VAM 41)

It would seem I have become horribly spoiled by what tends to be an abundance of secondary PUP photos in the 1921-P pages, because when I tried to identify an 1882-P today I was immediately frightened. (So MANY with doubled dates... most of which I can't actually see!) But backing away was not an option, so I had to try the blunt force method #1 of opening every last page.

Out of 54 different VAMs that have attribution pages, I feel good about having ruled out 51 of them. There's no clashing or extra metal in the date. (VAMs 9, 17, and 36 are left, but none seem to have enough significance for me to tell anything, so I didn't eliminate them.)

Which brings me to blunt force method #2: Take pictures and ask for help from people who know their way around the 1882-P pool.

The 1 in the date sure looks fat:

What's with the goofy middle part of the 2? Is that normal?

This coin is overpolished around the designer's initial and in Liberty's hair, and on the left wreath:

More photos, because 5 is never enough...
Lots of lines on this coin that perhaps someone will recognize?

I share your eyesight and VAM pain. Absolutely awesome photos. I don't share your photography equipment or skills.

Certainly out of my area of expertise, but a lot to love if you are a VAMer.

The PUP at the eye should help you.

I very much agree.
The abundance of stuff on this coin is impressive, but the eye thing seems like a biggie.

Check out bam 38 and see if you got the polished line in hair.

Using blunt force to attribute a VAM is going to leave you with a badly damaged coin, especially if you keep at it long enough.

It looks like the 2 is punched over a 3. Maybe they were celebrating New Years too soon.

No line above the curl. 38 got eliminated early because I started at the bottom of the list.

Congrats! I have the V38 discovery and figured the eye marker looked solid.

You should compare it to the 22A...
