Because I make new entries into my VAM sales database every day, I notice things. What I've noticed lately is a bunch of 1878-P 8TF VAM 23s -- mostly PLs and DMPLs -- have come out of the woodwork.

In less than 3 months I have entered 24 VAM 23s that have sold on eBay alone, including seven separate auctions for a pair of coins. Three other coins sold at Heritage, plus one at Great Collections, which makes a grand total of 28.

VAM 23 has always been a "better" 8TF VAM, rather than something even remotely close to "rare". But I've never seen a stampede of them come to market in such a short period as this.

• 4 more PLs sold on eBay last night (two auctions, two coins per auction).
• There have also been two Unc. details coins sold on eBay.
• Of the 29 coins on eBay, one dealer accounts for 26 of them.

This same seller has been selling VAM-23s for many years. I got my DMPL VAM-23 from this seller in 2014 in a MS64 DMPL SEGS holder. It's like they have a whole bag of them. I've seen all different holders from SEGS, ICG, NGC, PCGS.. it's pretty remarkable.
