Denticle dots, are they from strike dbl?
What are these dots...................
Re: Denticle dots, are they from strike dbl?
Looking forward to hearing the experts' explanation. All I know is they're common as dirt. As are the 'dashed' varieties - ones that begin on one denticle and extend in a spear-like fashion towards the other one. Yes, sometimes leading to entire rows of connected denticles.
How it happens? Likely tiny recesses that form the space in-between the denticles have metal flow that creates all kinds of wonderfully mesmerizing patterns...

Really, it's the first time I've seen them, I'm looking forward too.....

There is also some ghosted letters around the edges so I'm guessing it is die fatigue. Maybe pitting gone wild?
Re: Denticle dots, are they from strike dbl?
Was just looking at a 78-S VAM-75 and noticed what I mentioned: dashes/spears begin along the right stars and become a full line as they progress under the date...

I am not sure how they come to be but I can tell you that they are really common (once you start to look for them) and they are found on many (if not all) date and from different mints. There is at least 1 VAM (1902-P VAM-19) out there that owes it's existence to those little denticle dots. LVA soon lost interest in them and they ceased to be mentioned in his descriptions.

"Dots in Denticles" are common as others have said. The circular lines as Gary mentioned are also common. But there are things that stand out.
