Can Anyone help Identify This 1922 D Peace Dollar?
This 1922 D has a B2 reverse with no significant PUP'S. The observe is a different story. There is a rim to rim die break through the top of the Y in LIBERTY terminating with rim cuds at both ends of the break. There is also a long die break from the designer initials through Liberty's neck through the G of GOD to the bottom of the L in LIBERTY.
Re: Can Anyone help Identify This 1922 D Peace Dollar?
The break thru Y looks similar to 2U1 but that break from neck thru G up to L is crazy cool and doesn't match up to the crack on the 2U1. Maybe Dr. Close will chime in. I went thru all the B2's and B1's and could not find anything similar to the break from neck to L. Any notables on reverse? Nice find!

Nice find BJ. Does your coin display reverse collar clash with rim die break? Both 16A and 16B exhibit this PUP on reverse at 4 -5 o'clock.

John, you are the crusher of dreams. I must have been through the 1922 D list of VAM's 4 or 5 times, but evidently skipped over the descriptions beginning with doubling features. Can someone please add VAM 16B to the 1922 D Die Break Guide?
Roger, yes my coin does display the reverse collar clash and rim die break. This should be a list coin with all the different features it has.

ANACS has only graded two 1922 D VAM 16 B , both as AU 58. My DC piece was purchased around 18 years ago from Jim's Coins & Stamps Auction. The coin languished in an NGC holder after they failed to honor my paid attribution retained cud request. Resubmitted to ANACS in 2016 and finally got respectful recognition.Very long obverse retained cud extends from rim at T down to rim across from middle lower hair strands. Reverse long rim break with strong collar clash compliments this outstanding VAM 16 B.

Thanks for the background information on the 1922 D VAM 16B. I consider it a very special die variety, just so much going on with this coin.RogerRock wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 7:42 pmANACS has only graded two 1922 D VAM 16 B , both as AU 58.
