3 Fresh Rolls of Carson City's Plus

Post by twohawks » Sun Nov 28, 2021 5:59 pm

Well, this mini hoard just came in and will be at PCGS in the AM. 1 single roll of 1882, 1883 and 1884 CC Morgans along with 2 rolls of 1881 S Morgans. No VAM 2e or d's and no VAM 54 b's but nice coins all the same.

Very nice! That's what they used to look like before the phony toning and dip-n-strippers go hold of 'em!

Nope, just was laying them out and I didn't wish to drop them on a hard table. I was sorting in grade order before re-tubing them for submission.

The reverses are hands down better looking than the obverse. I will post the grade report when they come back, you can VAM about 7 of then just by the obverse. You have a few VAM 3-d R-7 coins, but that VAM is not really an R-7 personally, as well as a few VAM 2 b's and c's.

RE: "The reverses are hands down better looking than the obverse."

This is because the coins fell from the press into the receiving bin face-up. Thus, the obverse got hit by falling coins more often than the reverse. The first coins falling into empty bin might survive with few marks since some of the coins landed on bare wood. As another layer of coins accumulated, more of the coins suffered damage. Last, when the bin was nearly full, coins slid into the bin more gently and at a shallower angle, thus producing fewer deep marks and lighter slide marks.
