Post by vamsterdam » Tue Nov 23, 2021 6:34 pm

been doing more shows than ever and am extremely busy. i get away from my table whenever i can and have found a few good ones. stopped at one table after it had been ransacked and found an xf 1879s v56, 1922d vam 1d lds pcgs64, 1921d v1U pcgs62, 1922d v2N lds au, 1878s v89 bu, 1923 v1aa pcgs65, 1878s v63.1 pcgs62, 1878s v15 pcgs63, 1887/6 ngc64, 1882o/s ngc62, and lots of other stuff, all unattributed. nobody shares there finds any more but i thought i'd try to get it started again.

Sounds like a nice haul.... seems more people are selling than buying VAMs anymore. I hit 2 shows in last month locally. Only bought 1 coin for the VAM, a few others just for melt that looked nicer than common melt. I am waiting on a purchase or two from the bay, but finds for my collecting wants have been limited.

Just pulled this one from the mailbox.... toning almost hides what VAM it is, but it didn't elude me.

They are relatively tough in higher grades, my set has an ANACS graded 40 in it. The circulation scratch on the cheek looks much worse than it is, I am hopeful this one will grade as well. But I really like it for the toning.

Yeah I don’t think the scratch will detail it. Get her graded

 I dont do shows anymore but my Heritage buyer says dealer
attendance and activity is good. PCGS only shows seem gaining
popularity. He says dealers that rotate inventory are doing well
while others not quite so with the program are not fairing as well

I know a larger NW dealer that really kills it because he knows
how to do business, unlike many of the old duffers that now have
little clue of technology advances with respect to EXPOSURE

A look at Heritage -their advances in internet exposure etc tells
the story that the industry must follow to succeed
For the most part Fleabay is a flop for sellers with the fees &
restrictions/still fraud etc. I have turned in one fraudelent seller
several times to no avail. He sells rolls of morgans -has for many
yrs but TPG will not grade them citing questionable authenticity
This guy is a large seller / mostly 20 coin rolls/various dates
Avoid e bay seller = HSTURN like a plague

i found a nice 1891o vam 1a3 recently too, along with a v15b xf45. there is still fun to be had. going through my pil eof dollars and there are some good ones in there. shows are busy but a few are starting to slip back into boring for me. cleveland airport does little for me, but it's an hour and a half drive. hilliard(columbus) keeps working, mainly because of how i keep buying my way out of the show.

I've heard good things come in threes, waiting on a couple more recent picks to arrive. Will post here if they merit a viewing when they make it home.

2nd of the threesome arrived. While it is worn and not the prettiest, when one shows up, I can't pass on this 1891 o VAM.

the last 1891 o made it home, was able to cherrypick due to date position and unlisted gouges. Have only seen a few with the gouges. Needs an acetone bath, but is a decent example.

Better photo of date on the VAM 20 after a little rose thorn work and acetone soak. I was sure from date position that's what i would find under all the crud.
