1923 D VAM 1X1 or 1X2 - What's it worth?
Found a nice AU example of 1X1 or 1X2 (leaning towards 2). Is there any premium over the regular value of an AU 1923D? (We could probably use these pictures on the page as well.)

Look like VAM 1X2 .. Check the break at 1 .
I do not think their is a premium I have 3 VAM 1X2 .. It is a R7 if that mines anything .

Thanks. Didn't buy it because I did not want to pull the trigger as they had it priced pretty high (in my opinion) at $65.00. I like the breaks and all, but not that much to pay a premium. In my opinion, it would probably be a low AU due to all of the hits (but I am still learning to grade Darksiders), which would make it at most a $35-40 coin.

Exf at most , may push AU 50 .. 27 to 35 .
Keep up the hunt , their are some nice Peace dollars out their .
Something is pushing the price up and I do not see what it is . I for one do not over pay .

Thanks. I think that a lot of the inflation of the asking prices is driven by misunderstanding or complete lack of understanding of what these varieties are. Sellers, including some dealers, see them as errors or something unique that creates a significant increase in the value. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the term "VAM error" used for coins with die cracks or clashes. I don't pay a premium unless I really want something and I don't ever see it. Usually, for eBay auctions, I will set a max of $25(for any auction) for what I will pay and just stick to that. Half of what's on there is cleaned or has other issues, so I am not willing to risk too much over melt value.

I would agree with not paying a premium for this one in a circulated grade. Uncs are distinctly scarce however.

@crit0069, I have been burned on auctions with manipulated pics and cleaned coins, so I don't risk much on a guess as to whether what I think I see is there. $25 is not much over melt, so any loss will be small. I have picked up some nice stuff in auctions for very little money, but if I see something that I really want, I will pony up, even if it means overpaying a bit. It's only on the "not sure" things that I don't risk much.

I ended paying 65 for it , it's in an OLD small ANAS holder UNC details scratched with a net grade of AU 53 , got to have a loupe to see scratches but I'm not sure they are really there. Beautiful coin it will cartwheel
