Re: 4 pretty rare VAMs up for sale on eBay
What’s nice about the V188 is that it has the extra metal and die polish shadows on the reverse at C-A. The later die states don’t have that. Super coins!
Re: 4 pretty rare VAMs up for sale on eBay
Morgans are longer for sale.
Re: 4 pretty rare VAMs up for sale on eBay
I assume you mean no longer for sale? And they sold privately instead?
When in doubt... don't.
Re: 4 pretty rare VAMs up for sale on eBay
No, I just wanted to put them up for sale over the weekend and see what happened. Maybe I had them priced too high as none of them sold. Oh well, maybe some other time. I usually don't do "Buy it now" on eBay, I do auctions with $1 opening bid and no reserve. Ain't no way I was going to take a chance like that on those VAMs. All too often when I sell something on eBay via auction....I see the winning bidder post it on eBay a week later with a "buy it now" that is double what his/her high bid was! LOL.
Re: 4 pretty rare VAMs up for sale on eBay
I would have pulled the trigger on the VAM-188 if it was in a PCGS holder. I have had terrible luck trying to cross ANACS to PCGS..
Re: 4 pretty rare VAMs up for sale on eBay
I know, I have yet to send it to PCGS for crossover but I eventually will. The coin has hairlines (you can see them in the pics) and being it is a PL I'm scared PCGS is going to call it cleaned. It is such a crap shoot with them sometimes. A few months back I sent a group of 32 coins to PCGS for crossover. 16 ANACS & 16 NGC. Of the 32 coins, 16 crossed & 16 DNC. Of the 16 that crossed, 12 were ANACS & 4 were NGC. Of the 16 that did not cross, 12 of them were NGC & 4 were ANACS. I have cracked out old PCGS (Rattlers/OGHs) coins and submitted them only to get the dreaded "DETAILS" grade. If I ever get the V188 in a PCGS holder it will never be for sale, lol. On a side note, I have cracked numerous NGC graded Morgans that were in MS60, 61 & some 62 holders, submitted to PCGS and got AU58. Had that happen numerous times. Personally, NGC is a joke and not just for grades...they are a joke on multiple levels!

I totally agree with Mark on the Pulling the trigger if it was in a PCGS holder . I was thinking the same as Mark . Yep crossovers can be iffy .
But sometimes they come back with a higher grade . I had a 1878 VAM 44 in ANACS AU53 crossover to a PCGS AU55 . So you never know .

Re: 4 pretty rare VAMs up for sale on eBay
You know I did get your vam 70 for a good price. I honestly don't think I'll ever sell it. I put it on ebay for 1500 just to see what happens. When the only vam 70 in ms65 hits the auction block I'll be the winner. I would really like that vam 198 but I can't pay that much because I'll have to cross it to pcgs. I have only had one coin down grade when crossing from ANACS to PCGS. My 1878 8TF down graded. ANACS AU50 to a PCGS XF45. Still a nice coin. Maybe a 1000 tops for the VAM 198.
Re: 4 pretty rare VAMs up for sale on eBay
I'll eventually send both the V188 & V198 to PCGS for crossover. The V188 even with the hairlines that it has is a very nice coin and a solid PL. How many MS PL V188s do you think are out there? LOL. Kind of glad it didn't sell...I have had so many Morgans over the years that I sold and regret doing so. One of the biggest ones is an 1878 8TF VAM 14.13 in PCGS MS65DMPL (that was the holder it was in at the time I bought it off of Teletrade back in 2000 or 2001, I can't remember). The coin now resides in a PCGS MS63PL holder (long story behind that one). And of course my 1878 8TF VAM 14.20 discovery piece....I wish I would have never sold that! Or the full blown 1888-O SCARFACE in MS I sold to Mike Andrew for $200. Way before I realized what a full blown SCARFACE is worth. Live and learn......as the saying goes. I'm hanging on to most of my TOP POP Morgans as you never know when you can find another one. Of the TOP POP 1880-S VAM 10 Morgans @ PCGS, I own a 66, the only 66+, both the 67s (although I sold one to Andy Hansen), the only 67+ and the 64DMPL. How many 1880-S VAM 10s have you seen in DMPL?
Then there is the two 1900-O/CC VAM 9s (1 MS63, 1 MS64, both NGC. The 63 was nicer than the 64 which Fey agreed with.) I found at the FUN show 20+ years ago....sold those to Mike Fey....wish I had those back! I could write a book on this stuff. LOL.
