2019 VSS/PCGS Bulk Submission #1 closed

Post by messydesk » Mon Dec 03, 2018 3:11 am

As mentioned earlier, I'm going to change my bulk schedule so that I always have an order opened, and I ship as soon as it hits 100 coins.

Rules for the PCGS submission are the same as ever. My fee is $6 plus shipping, PCGS's will depend on the grade they assign to the coins, which means I won't know total costs until grades are in. Unless PCGS changes them (I don't know the 2019 rates yet), the fees for bulk grading of Morgan and Peace dollars are 60-63 $5, 64 $10, 65 $17, 66 $20, others $10. No restriction on mix of dates. Maximum declared value per coin is $300. No-grades are no charge for grading unless there are too many in the submission, unless PCGS changes those rules, too. I'll put these in my holders. You pay my fee plus return shipping (on my form) up front, and then the PCGS fee plus your share of the shipping to and from them once I know it.

I'll post an "almost there" note here when I'm close to 100. I'll post again when I ship and then open up the next submission immediately.

I'm hoping they are, but no way of telling.

It looks like PCGS made one minor change in the last bulk order. So far, it will affect almost nobody. If they grade a coin and it's worth significantly more than $300 as a result, they charge $25 rather than the fee based on the scale above. Two of the over 200 coins fell into this category last time. I would assume that this will be the rule going forward.

I want to be involved in this John. I have only one coin at the moment...but hopefully will be adding at least one(maybe more)before the deadline. Thanks!

The "deadline" is whenever I have 100 coins to ship, then the next bulk order opens. I'll probably post an update whenever I'm getting close to 100.

Mine was a buddies 96 O. Thought it looked better than the NGC 53 holder it was in. Cracked it hoping for a 55 or 58. Came back a 61! Had a good submission overall. All straight grades. Other highlights were an 89O 20A in 55 and a 23 1D in 63. Your turn Lee

The one that went above the group submission limit was my 1901 VAM-3 in XF-45. Not sure why the XF-45 is above the limit unless they attributed it on the holder without being asked.
Another good one is an 1880-O VAM-6C in MS-62.

A 1901 3 is on my want list nice find. Coin money is gone until July of next year now. Gotta save money for union contract negotiations just in case....

That one is a Red Book variety for which they don't charge extra. The label simply says Doubled Die Reverse. I submitted it as just a 1901, but it's obvious enough for them to catch. Same goes for 88-O Hotlips coins.

I got a 78S V74 they graded 64+. Their price guide says $150. The last VamView book shows $1,000.00. Wow I was surprised!

For clarification purposes, are we talking PCGS guide value for grade only or will they assess VAM premiums as going towards the $300 threshold too? I assume it is just PC guide value for grade unless it's a Red Book one they catch like the shifted eagle or hot lips then the VAM premium is applied towards the $300. Correct?

1901-P VAM 3 is a longtime known VAM for PCGS. An XF45 is three or more times the $300 value limit for bulk, and PCGS knows it.
When in doubt... don't.

Correct. That's a "red book" variety that they know about quite well, with a well-established value in their guides. The bulk team isn't going to go through all the 8TFs looking for tough ones, though, so the guides for those don't come into play. Of course, I don't make their rules.

Right.

How close is 2019 Submission #1 to being sent to PCGS?
