Just got an e-mail from Stack's/Bowers that 118 of Mark Kimpton's clashed Morgans, including discovery pieces, are selling next Tuesday, 12/13. Here's the link.

Yet another example of Morgans being sold from well known holdings
Very little to nothing ever reported of a set or partial being sold, which really
makes one question the values reflected by PCGS & Etc. Its grosely overvalued
IMHO and serves individual igos mainly. Expensive EGO'S LOL

Personally i cannot fathom spending countless hours and the huge bucks to
assemble theose sets. Guess i simply cannot see within this box. LOL
Anything to do with PCGS or other set developers, smells of high heaven to me.
as co;;ector's bare the brunt of financial woes in the end

I would be interested to hear about complete sets that have so;d for decent money
Just one members opinion/take on it all

As far as I know, Mark sold his stuff a long time ago when he went to be a missionary. I thought he sold to Michael Fey, but could be mistaken, and he might not be the current owner, anyway. All coins have been recently seen by ANACS in preparation for the sale, as they were bought and collected as raw coins. Great opportunity for clashed die afficionados to add some holotypes to their collections, and a great sign for the hobby that Stack's Bowers sees fit to promote this specifically as an important VAM collection being sold.

JB is correct except he didn’t sell his collection to Micheal Fey, but to someone else like me on this site who had an interest in clashed dies. I did consider at the time, but had 2 kids in college.

I do believe he sold the the rights to his book to Micheal Fey, but not much has come from that.

So as far as i understand Michael Fey now owns a huge amount of
intellectual property rights, after his LVA purchase.
My inside gut tells me not to trust these kinda moves, just like not trusting lawyers!
not sure why here but something smells like ????????????????
otherwise why would anybody throw good money into this arena ?
For good of vams etc !! Really ?? power & money ??

So how did people do? I was out enjoying dinner with my wife tonight when the auction went off, so couldn't participate live. I did manage to win the 1901-O VAM 25A discovery piece, though. Some respectable prices for the stuff I got outbid on.

Hope you had a wonderful dinner with your wife.

Had my eyes on the 01-O 25A as it was a pretty piece. Had my eyes on quite a few and was a bit surprised many didn't go higher. These might not be the most valuable of coins in some ways, but these are immensely valuable in others!

Happily ended up snagging the 90-O 1B and the 91-O 14A but lost the 78-CC 7A.

There sure were a LOT of $80 and $100 "sold for" prices.
