Have never owned one - tough coin for sure. Not being on any "list" I hesitate putting a monster value on it. Value is in the eye of the beer holder on the one that sold. Jim

It's in the PCGS Morgan Super Set and almost nobody has one.

That $6,100 sale is the only one I have ever seen in 16 years of gathering VAM sales results.

Increadibly difficult coin to locate. I've never seen one sale in public.
I bought an entire set to aquire one a few years ago.
PCGS Suoer Set is faily popular and that's one of those hard too fill holes.

I’ve been involved in a number of discoveries and killed off many Vams because they were Duplicates so
Know a little about the following: 1921-D vam 9A has always been attributed as 9A In God We _Rust.
Why was 1921-D vam 9A In God We _Rust Fiiled Die changed to Vam 1CY in VW? I understand that 9A and 1CY are duplicates but the long history has to take Precedence. Scribbling Die Scratches #26 shouldn’t drive this change to Vam 1CY. I see that SSDC has changed to Vam 1CY.
PCGS still attributes the currently known 8 examples only as Vam 9A and will not change them to the VW new number.
PCGS Super And Morgan Major Vam Registy sets will only acknowledge 1921-D as Vam 9A
Need to rethink this chance
Please advise

While researching a lengthy article that John Goldsmith and I wrote on this topic in 2021, we tracked down most of the known PCGS examples of VAM 9A. Here is a brief excerpt:

Because of how small and incredibly helpful the VAM community is, we set out to see how many VAM 9As we could track down. We hoped to borrow as many as possible to inspect and/or get photos or VAM confirmations from their owners.

Remarkably, we found most of them. We personally inspected three coins and got photos or definitive attributions from the owners of four others. The whereabouts of the remaining two (XF45 and MS63) are completely unknown. Here is what we found the actual attributions of 9 certified and attributed 9A coins to be:

PCGS XF40 – is actually VAM 1U (LDS)
PCGS XF45 – whereabouts unknown
PCGS AU details – is actually VAM 1W (EDS)
SEGS AU50 – is actually VAM 1Ai/1EO*
PCGS AU50 – is actually VAM 1Ai/1EO
PCGS AU53 – is actually VAM 1Ai/1EO
PCGS AU58 – is actually VAM 1Ai/1EO
PCGS MS63 – whereabouts unknown
PCGS MS65 – is actually VAM 1CY/9A

(*: Upon seeing that the SEGS coin was not a VAM 9A, the owner broke it out in front of the company owner and surrendered the insert tag. The coin was then submitted to another TPG, where it lost its VAM 9A designation and came back as a generic 1921-D in XF45. Ouch.)
When in doubt... don't.
