A shout-out to VSS

Post by DHalladay » Fri Oct 16, 2020 5:45 pm

As VAM collectors, most of us like/want to see accurate attributions on our certified coins (if for no other reason than TPG Set Registry programs). It's a big reason why attributed coins consistently sell for more than unattributed coins.

But PCGS and NGC don't attribute all VAMs and independent, professional attribution is a huge help when it comes time to sell (which everyone does eventually, or their heirs do).

In the last year or so I selectively sent Variety Slabbing Service about two dozen PCGS coins that PCGS does not attribute, because I knew its attributions would give potential buyers confidence in my coins' attributions. Last night in the Heritage specialty PL-DMPL-VAM auction It was confidence I consistently saw translate into higher prices -- value that far exceeded the modest cost of the VSS service.

Thank you VSS. :D

Dennis
Would herritage place coins with the Vss sticker
At auction?
I believe GC would take stickers off

Yes.
21 of my coins that sold last night had VSS stickers on them, and that's how Heritage listed them.

Heritage has recognized VSS stickers for years.
Several years ago I purchased an 1878-P
VAM-41C in MS-65 from Heritage with JB’s sticker.
Too bad Great Collections doesn’t recognize
the added value of the VSS professional attribution.
