Coins to car racing

Post by mark » Thu May 19, 2022 7:07 pm

I will only live this life once so have decided to take up race/track driving as a hobby.

I have had a blast the past 15 years building these sets. In order to get a jump start I will probably sell half my Morgan collection, maybe more.

I will not break up my 1878 sets, it's either all or nothing. The other sets might have more flexibility but would prefer to sell a whole set vs breaking up. Some of these sets to include 1878 coins obviously but have backups that could be included due to the overlap in sets.

Lots of top pop coins, most 1878's have Trueview pics. Much of the others also.

I have added what PCGS says the sets are worth for reference.

Full 1878 set in PCGS holders, have a bunch in ANACS and NGC holders also.

I'm hoping to purchase a Porsche 911/991 GT3. I live near Laguna Seca and have a couple of colleagues that have GT3s and one is an instructor.

What about the 8TF coins in your grading set that are not part of any major set?

I have done the track racing thing in the past. I know why he is selling his incredible collection. When it costs $2000-$3000 per day for tires at the track one needs a sponsor or $$$$$ (yes, 5 dollar signs, 4 is borderline)

This will just be for fun. Might not actually get as far as racing against other people but want to have a bit of fun before I'm too old to be able to enjoy.

Wheel to Wheel with a GT3 is crazy. I would never do it with my own car. A full day at the track will burn your tires like I mentioned without wheel to wheel racing. I ran my race-ready Mini at Willow Spring and Little Willow as well. Fun days!

Just remember, the fast guys don't drive Cup Ferrari's LOL

Funny thing JK, I NEVER liked any Corvettes until the last couple years when they started making them look like 25 yr old Ferraris... and FINALLY got rid of those stupid round taillights! Fight me!
Anyway, now I have one built online, just waiting until I have the rest of the funds... I'm only short about $79,000, so I'm allllmost there!
I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?

I've had a 61 , 3 different 65's, an 84, & a 93 vette. throw in a Mustang, Camaro, and a MG Midget. In Penn. you can enjoy them for 7 months with our weather. Dollars can be enjoyed 12 months a year.

Don’t have any race cars, but did buy my first “collectible” car last year….1961 Corvair Lakewood wagon. I got it from my uncle who bought it new then restored it in late 80s-90s. One of the most unique American cars ever made and Ralph Nader loved them. Looks brand new and gets lots of looks when I drive it around town.
