Re: 1904-O VAM-28A and VAM-32 observation

You have stumbled across one of the conundrums of the 1904-O series. The best explanation is this: An anomaly in the series involves the VAM-32. Both obverse and reverse dies were involved in clash episodes at some point in time. However, the rotation of the reverse clash marks in relation to the o...

1904-O VAM-28A and VAM-32 observation

I noticed something I hadn’t expected when comparing the reverse of 1904-O VAM-28A and VAM-32. While I know they share an obverse (along with VAM-2A), I hadn’t expected to find the reverse of VAM-32 also clashed. I tried looking for faint marks of the second clash on the obverse of VAM-32, but with ...

Re: HELP FINDING MORE NEW VAMERS

If you want to attract new members and then retain them, you will have to simplify. Allow me to put it directly -- there is too much "stuff" to catch the interest of new collectors. They will not wade through the chest-deep mire of multiple sub- sub- super-sub varieties and suffixes to VAM numbers....

Re: Error? PMD? What is this…1903-O VAM-4A

@Kurt28 and @pup_picker , i think you both got it right. Thanks for the insight, I think this was a case of looking too closely.

I held up a coin to the spot and it lines up too perfectly.

I appreciate the help on a pretty trivial and minor thing.

Re: Error? PMD? What is this…1903-O VAM-4A

If the PMD came from a glancing blow (low angle of incidence,) then you may have the mark above the R, and a dragging of the offender to the left. Unable to upload photo showing arrow, but it is on the wreath leaf above the R. Ok that is making more sense and adds to the above. Also, I noticed you ...

Re: Error? PMD? What is this…1903-O VAM-4A

edited to add. that cac'ed? WOW So that’s what got me too and sent me on this “it’s not PMD” train lol. The area is clean where the top of the R is and the metal is clearly pushed into the letter. A 66 and CAC? Not hard to miss in-hand either. If it was a hit, I would expect to see the marks above ...

Error? PMD? What is this…1903-O VAM-4A

Vammers, I’m looking for an assist on this 1903-O VAM-4A I just picked up. The attribution was an easy one, so I’m not sweating that part (or am I?) The part I’m confused by is the “broken R” on dollar. To my eye, it appears to have happened during the strike and not post-mint-damage. At first look,...

Re: What method are they using to achieve that look

If you’ve seen Canyon City coins on eBay, you’ll notice their photos are very deceptive. I was able to mimic the look as an experiment and it’s achieved by using a warm and cool lamp, then in post processing, kill shadow detail and crank blacks while adding some brightness/luminance. They also use a...

Nice, the user’s profile also has some spam links. Not sure if you can suspend privilege while they fix their login security.

Hello and thanks for looking! I’d like to trade my NGC MS66 1903-O that I’ve attributed as VAM-12, O/O Down. Willing to trade for any clashed 1903-O MS65-MS66; PCGS, NGC, or ANACS. I’m trying to build a New Orleans date set with only clashed varieties, so this one doesn’t fit in. No cash, just a str...

Is this a LDS 1899-O VAM-30?

Looking at this recent pickup, appears to be an 1899-O VAM-30, but a slightly later die state? There’s a neat die crack through the lower hair V that made me initially think it was a letter.

Thanks for looking!

Re: Here's today's puzzle

OK, here's the story. This is obviously struck by a cancelled die. In fact, this is one of the 2 oz tokens Ash had struck with the mated 84-CC pair he bought at the ANA. I did an 'About VAMs' column on the dies right after the show. I've had the dies in hand. The pic is from the ANA. After the toke...

Help with 1889-O VAM-11

I picked this 1889-O up recently, I believe it to be a VAM-11 but there’s not a lot of info on the page. I’ve included some full coin photos and the TrueView if it helps. I can also get some better closeups if needed.

Thanks in advance!
