Re: 1921-D vam 1H3 Cud

Wow! Congrats.
That's one that is so scarce, I've resigned myself to never being able to own one.

Re: Flummoxed over this 1921-D

There are updates to both the scribbles and crack guides in the pipeline to be posted, but @fogie has been doing the coin show road warrior thing for about three weeks. He'll have A LOT of emails with attachments waiting for him when he gets home.

Re: NEW GAME,,,,, VAM "The Price is right "

Time for the reveal:

@Eschaton is the winner. The actual price paid was $219 way back in June 2001.
Your turn Jason!

Re: NEW GAME,,,,, VAM "The Price is right "

OK, here's a fun one. LVA made it my very first VAM Discovery in 2002. A couple years later, PCGS owner David Hall put Discovery Coin on the holder as thanks for enlisting 3 fellow VAMers to submit a list of VAM recommendations that PCGS should begin attributing. Before then they only did basic stuf...

Re: NEW GAME,,,,, VAM "The Price is right "

OK, confession time. For the VAM 44 I used to make this trade I paid just $40. That was the sticker price on the holder, and I even pointed to it when I asked the dealer, "Is this the price?" He said yes. The person I traded with cherrypicked the VAM 8 as a raw coin. He paid less than that for it – ...

How long do I have to let this go before confessing?

Re: NEW GAME,,,,, VAM "The Price is right "

I almost feel bad about posting this one. Almost. The story is, it came to me as-is in a straight-up trade for my 1878 VAM 44 in an ANACS AU details holder (it looked AU53/55 to me). I bought it for the full sticker price asked by a longtime dealer of high end Morgans, so it's my cost basi...

Re: 1921-S VAM-1BJ2 or something else?

That's it.
Your coin is a later die state than mine, because it has weaker neck and wing clashes. Yours does also have a filled-G, like mine:

Re: 1921-S VAM-1BJ2 or something else?

Sure enough. It's 1BJ3. No die file lines and has the diagonal lines in LIBERTY. Do you think the curving line at the chin/neck is a strikethrough? Yes, strike-through was my first reaction. And immediately below the bottom right of your red circle I see evidence of a very old clash line at the nec...

Re: 1921-S VAM-1BJ2 or something else?

It's definitely a 1BJ-something in my opinion. But without the heavy die file lines shown on the attribution page I don't see how this can be a 1BJ2: http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1921-S_VAM-1BJ2 That leaves 1BJ and 1BJ3. Does you coin have die files lines at PLURIBUS?...

Re: How TPG's fudge turnaround times

I sent in 4 orders that were all logged in as "Received" on July 28. The World coin order status moved to "Grading" within a couple of days. The Modern Value order moved to Grading a few days later. But the crossover order didn't hit Grading until yesterday. And the raw Trade dollars order status is...

Re: 1921-S help needed

The scribbles – what there are, that is – are frustrating. Besides being weak and few in number, they are located in multiple places and were unusually difficult to photograph. It was impossible to get them all in one photo, and I had to move the position of the light source for each one: scribs 1.j...
