I was looking at my broken Bust dollar again.
So how do you decide what part is the retained cud? Is it the upper or lower half?

5A is super easy to attribute when you look in the eagle's right wing (left wing as you view it).
Go to the VAM-5 page for the dead give away pick up (two lines) in the eagle's wing.

Read the text also. The reverse is not limited to 5 & 5A.

Be very careful about using clash location to attribute a 53A. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen a 5A or 11A "attributed" as a 53A. They are NOT 53As. But the clash looks similar to a 53A, so that is where the "attribution" ends. I am suspicious of any 53A that is claimed without photo do...

Here is another one of my favorites.
Very hard to find 1880 VAM-53. 53A is a lot easier to find. This is mine in PCGS MS-63PL and on the VAM-53 page.

I think that this is my favorite US clashed coin I own. And I have several TOP POP clashed VAMs. I have never seen a VAM with the number of letter transfer that this coin has.
