Re: I played with my 78’s on my first date:

Hey Bob, After reading and looking at the Zeiss link you provided. I was reminded of this method called Focus Stacking . This is when you take multiple images of a coin, variating just the focal point in each; stack/or layer all these images together and form just one image. I used it on my last pho...

Re: I played with my 78’s on my first date:

I am hoping this is the photo you mentioned above: Gcs78s around 8.JPG Here is another photo I just took. I think you can see the elevation of the anomaly much better. That P.M. scratch across both surfaces and on the surface of the '7' is a good pick-up for that raised elevation change. IMO gcs_187...

Re: I played with my 78’s on my first date:

Thanks, Bob. I've looked at that anomaly in the 'date at the first eight' for years now and I am still not sure what it is. I would like to poke that scab-looking crust piece, circled in this photo; just to see what the surface is like underneath. 1878-S_scab_anomaly.JPG The 'cracks' make it look li...

1878-S Anomaly:

Hello, Has anyone here on this site experimented with Linux & numismatics? This Google Docs thing that I have been playing with here does not seem to be easily available to everyone. Too bad; it has a lot of interesting features. [/u] This Linux thing is interesting also! ...On a learning curve... T...

Re: (4) 1921-D scribbles help needed

All I moved was the location of the light source (a single gooseneck lamp). Thank you. It sure makes a huge difference just moving that light source. May I ask how you go about doing the comparison with the 1921-D scribbles guide? I am trying this split-screen thing on this computer. On the left is...

Dennis;

In the first three photos of coin #1:

What was the thing(s) you changed to get three different perspectives?
Lighting, light direction, f-stop change, photoshop maybe? I see just enough 'hints' to know they are all the same coin.

thanks

I am attempting to follow posts with the intent of helping if I can. I have to admit I am completely lost. Re: HIt List 40 Value Questions

Unfortunately I tend to get off topic .LOL I guess I need to see if the SSDC Data base values for the original coin in question has been amended to give a better idea of what a 1890-O VAM 20 in a AU 53 really is ? I will have to start a new topic and get someone else to explain just what makes some...

Re: HIt List 40 Value Questions

Thanks colwillys I went searching for a chisel to do the 'deed' for my first time. I found this on the chisel. maybe a little OT, but my guess is this company had a lot in common with coin die-making. Has a hardened 'edge holding' layer of metal when you look at the chisel profile. The top layer is ...

Re: HIt List 40 Value Questions

Hello Bob, Vaughn has a long history of making quality hand tools. I looked on youtube just to see what was the best recommendation for a coin extraction from Thee third-party holder. There were a lot of good, no damage to the coin , ideas. Sounds like a lot of folks are dissatisfied with the TP sea...

Re: 1923-P Vam 1ck Vamcracker

As the die cracks are different, they are from different dies . For the coin at the top of the page, it is difficult to determine from the photo if this is some form of PMD, rusted or worn die, or ??. As you had noted, for this to be from a clash is very unlikely, & would almost certainly show stro...

1923-P Vam 1ck Vamcracker

Hello everyone. Thank you for this site. I learn a lot here. I have been seeking out the 1923-P Vam 1ck In an effort to verify a suspicious non-typical/probably impossible clash. update: Interesting note from LVA on a different Vam (It may help here I am thinking) LVA comment: "23-P - 1AN.
