Re: 1884 O Questions
Close. There's a couple different grids used here. Horizontal lines at the bottom of the ribbon and top of D-O help determine High-Low and tilt. There's an example found in Vam 101 under MM positioning but your example could also be used if you use the bottom curves of the ribbon as your guide. Here...

Re: 1884 O Questions
I see a normal date with round O...but is it O/O? IMO, the ribbon and chips are irrelevent. I couldn't find a mention of the clash but it's interesting. O does look tilted right but without a grid it's a tough call. It didn't find mention of a tilted right O. I suggest checking for the overlapping r...

Re: A link or brief explanation please
Thank you to whoever upgraded 1AA3 to the dubious column. I feel slightly better about my label now.

A link or brief explanation please
Just six months ago, I submitted a 21-D Morgan to ANACS that I read and submitted as Vam 1AA2. ANACS read it as a 1AA3 and labeled it as such yet tonight I noticed 1AA3 has been delisted in VamWorld. I searched for a discussion on this delisting and found nothing. The discussion I did find was an LV...

I believe I see a 5B. It comes with or without the dashed 8. Many of the crack patterns are similar. Check for that chip at the inside top end of the left wreath.

Well, since St Charles is generally to the north, unsweetened I imagine.

Re: What is the correct term?
I enjoyed the dialogue and the love of the craft displayed by both in their words. Soft dies is an assumption unless testing was completed on the dies in question. I imagine that would be in a record. Records are sometimes incorrect because those responsible will not call out there own incompetence ...

1884 w/filled O
Two VAMs mention a filled O, Vam 5 and Vam 39. 5 is dubious and I have none of the PUPs for either. Anybody out there aware of any others? The coin is otherwise indistinctive. File lines in the cap, hair and ear only. None on reverse. Normal Date. I see the O as tilted left. Coin is in an ANACS slab...

Re: Help w/1882 S plz
Thanks Mike. It's a match. I saw it as a tilt left vs far left. I'll try a grid next time.

Re: Help w/1882 S plz
Yes, similar to 10 also, but my S is lower and neck-wing gap heaviest lines run 9 to 2 vs 10 to 5. Also, PUPs in LIBERTY don't match. The ribbon lines are also different than 23. Thank u for the input.

Help w/1882 S plz
Received this beauty today and after two hours and I can't match it up. Definite 188 doubling with chip in upper loop of first 8. Not sure about the 2. No die chips in vines. The scratches off the left wing are very obvious and go as far down as the arrow tips. Any help appreciated.

Re: USPS question
This topic covered quite extensively on the PCGS forum. It seems coin related claims will not be honored unless they are sent certified mail. About 6 months ago, someone posted the USPS paragraph outlining the policy but I can't find it at the moment.

I would consider it a closed for VAM purposes. No pics of the open type and it may not exist.

Re: Morgan 1885-O Broken S
Impressive cleanup. The junction between lower and upper half is really narrow. I can't believe I don't have a picture of it or a Morgan out but for a letter to be "broken" it's very obvious. I'll attach what I have in the form of a broken "r". If the "s" is missing something, it could be just wear ...

Re: Morgan 1885-O Broken S
The "s" is not broken. Do you see the white/milky field around the word "trust" and in other areas? This is not normal and hints that the coin may be covered with a resin or similar. Perhaps soak it to remove the debris. Acetone is safe for silver. I suggest not rubbing or scrubbing the coin.

Re: Help with doubling... 1883-S
Mel....Did you attribute it? I don't see an S tilted right. It seems upright and slightly low and left. The date most resembles VAM 6. Other than wing-neck gap, there's really not a lot of other visuals to help you out. I hope this helps. GL
