Re: 1921 D VAM 1L[?] Is it 2, 3 or a new 4?
Here is a coin I bought from Rob Joyce. He believes it was the plate coin for VAM 1AC in his book, " Fun With 1921" . The crazy thing is, according to the VAM 1BG attribution page, 1AC was later eliminated after it was found to be VAM 1BG. Except this VAM 1AC is actually an EDS example of VAM 1L: sm...

Re: Dents in coins
Both coins have an overall "look" that isn't right to my eye. Could be lighting or could be mild cleaning of some kind. Both have rim issues, the 1895-O moreso than the 1892-CC. I also see the 1892-CC more as a VF35. I would be surprised if both coins were to get into problem-free holders – and not ...

Re: 1921 D VAM 1L[?] Is it 2, 3 or a new 4?
It is more pronounced. It matches the original VAM 1L. So which is it? The fact that it is difficult to say leads me to think the best solution may be to scrap the current 1L1, 1L2, and 1L3 and create new ones as I mentioned above, yours being 1L3. It wouldn't really be that disruptive, since most ...

John:
Thanks for joining this discussion!
Here's the break across the top of the M of my coin, which looks to be MUCH more pronounced than the plate image. Or is that just an illusion?

Here are pixs of what I'm calling 1L2... but maybe I'm wrong?

There are more scribbles there than you think. Take your strongest loupe and look at it from the 3 o'clock position with a light source over your right shoulder.
Without seeing the coin in hand I'm leaning more toward 1L2.

Re: 1878 P Rev 79 VAM 225A - PCGS MS62 (not on holder)
Here's what I have in my database. These are prices only for coins that were advertised as VAM 225A. As with most VAMs that aren't high profile, prices are all over the board: 1878 7TF R79 225A 63 ANACS Oct-16 E $140 1878 7TF R79 225A 62 PL ANACS Dec-20 E $425 1878 7TF R79 225A 62 PL NGC Oct-13 E $3...

1896 Micro-O VAM 4 PCGS VF30 (yes, one of THOSE!)
$3,500 delivered. Natural, even 'dirty grey' surfaces on both sides. I personally submitted this coin to PCGS for grading in May 2004. Here is a link to the VAMworld thread I wrote about the 1896, 1900 and 1902 Micro-Os nearly 3 years ago: http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2052&p=201...

Re: Looking for Vam Books and Attribution Guides
I can't speak to the Peace Dollar and Half Dimes books, but the others are all long out of print, had relatively few printed, are in constant demand, and are rarely available for sale. I can offer no help other than to wish you the best of luck in your search.

Re: Picking on PCGS again
Here's another one that is not a TRU-T in my opinion (graded AU53 by PCGS and attributed as VAM 1A "TRU-T" on the holder). In fact, if I owned that coin and it was raw, I wouldn't even think about sending it in to try for the VAM attribution. But what do I know?

VAM .45 would be appropriate, but is probably too much to hope for.

Picking on PCGS again
Why? Because sometimes they make it so damn easy. The first 3 PCGS coins are 1921-D VAM 1A2 "TRU_Ts". The AU50 is unattributed; the two MS63s are attributed on the holders: TRU_T yes1.jpg TRU_T yes2.jpg TRU_T yes3.jpg Then there's this coin, which is not only attributed by PCGS as a "TRU_T", but it'...

Thanks JB! (PCGS bulk results)
Got my coins back today... hooray! Dealing with PCGS always comes with surprises :D  and this time was no different. But the big picture was good: 35 of 36 coins went into holders – although nearly half (17) were at lower grades than expected. Seven came back higher, 12 were as expected. Th...

unknown 1921-P
Can anyone help with this? It's a longshot, since there are basically no scribbles, but if this were a 1921-D I'm sure the two reverse cracks would have gone a long way toward getting a VAM number assigned to it. • D2 reverse • Maybe traces of scribbles – or maybe not. Most distinctive mark is stron...
